Do you think that DMOZ listed expired domains worth purchasing?

What would be the price? Where did you get it? Just check it out its existence before selling it to somebody...

DMOZ is a certain plus especially now that they don't accept/delay new entries

DMOZ entry helps to stabilize the PR of the name

    imnajam
you already have 2 other topics for DMOZ names
People are confused with the same subject in 3 topics

The name is much more important. You'll find DMOZ listed domains starting at a few dollars and up on DP.

DMOZ listing is always a plus but not that often the only reason for the purchase

Thanks for the post, but how much do people usually like to pay for an average name (minimum and the maximum they would pay) is what I am looking for

There is a site that can tell you weather the site is DMOZ registered. But I dont think that anyone has a tool that helps to find DMOZ registered expired domains.

Actually there are a number of tools that can do just that ~ find dmoz-listed names that have expired. In fact, I have a few right now that I am considering registering.

Imnajam, yes it is worth purchasing IF you are going to use it or develop it in a field that is relevant. Meaning that, if you have a domain listed in DMOZ's software category, you would want to re-build it as a software site and not something totally out like a health-related site. I have PM'd you some info about one such domain that you might be interested in ~ DMOZ-listed, expired and listed in Pakistan's category for you.:)

Hmmm, I doubt it for myself. Buy a domain just because it has been listed in DMOZ .. not for me :)

It's known to many domainers that DMOZ use RoboZilla a bot that deletes most of the expired names in DMOZ so if you are lucky and the domain is not deleted then i think it's worth reg.it

If DMOZ start working again then Robozilla should be activated again so beware

It all depends on what the domain name is. I would not buy any domain whether it is listed in DMOZ or Yahoo Directory just for the sake of buying it. Just create good quality website and submist to DMOZ. You get listed there!

I wouldn't make a decision to register solely based on DMOZ.

DMOZ and editors are on the look out for domains that have expired and are now being used again. If it isn't removed before being hosted again it will be looked at to determine if the content is the same.

So if you are going to buy one, use wayback machine to find the old content and put the same content of the domain for a few months.

You don't need to have the same content on, but you do need to be quick about it. Buy and quickly put content on that is relevant to the category the site is in - or leave it alone. Robozilla doesn't do a who-is check, nor does it flag sites that completely changed content. It just checks whether the page in question is still working and doesn't return a 404 or something. Editors on the other hand will delete sites that don't work, but a site that clearly has useful content and belongs in the category it is listed in, will probably just get a new description if anybody sees the change.
