Can somebody on this forum tell me why do you waste your time on DMOZ ? Why do you think is so important ?

I'm waiting for 7 months to approve my site, and seems that it will never be approved ! I think this directory is a big waste of time !

How is it a waste of time ? Although I don't think much of Dmoz but I don't see how anyone can waste his time on it ? exactly what were you doing while waiting ?

It takes a minute to submit, how is that a waste of time?

Mind you, if you spent the last 7 months worrying about it then yeah, you wasted a bunch of time.

They want quality in their directory, not shitty sites...
But I agree.. Getting listed at DMOZ is nice, but it's just 'a directory'
Don't take hours to make sure your site gets listed ;)

Is your site better than the sites already listed?

A lot of people submit sites that don't meet the guidelines (like affiliate sites) or submit to the wrong category.

DMOZ editors are volunteer and some category editors are a lot better than others.

Submit and forget. It's not the end of the world if they don't accept your site.

LOL I can tell you don't use it as a resource... heh. If ya don;'t mind technical categories that have not been updated in years on end, then sure, the best of the best... of 2003 ;)

And don't forget all those top notch Geocities pages!

It's worth the three minutes it takes to submit... though you are correct. As a resource it's really lacking in MANY areas. Maybe if they had more then 600 or so active editors? Ever thought applying to be an editor?

It all depends on the editor of a certain category. Some are nice, some are not.

As MOST categories do not have editors, that is rather moot ;)

Though, as it does apply, it's really no different then any other directory, though replace owner with editor :D

I've submitted to hundreds of free directories. I get accepted to some, and not to others... it's not worth it to see which directories are worth it or not, as it's simply quicker to run through the list. When I get to DMOZ I submit...the same as the rest of the other free directories.

It is worth it to take a few minutes and submit your sites, but don't expect to be listed anytime soon. Just submit and forget about it.

The fact that Google holds Dmoz in quite high regards is a moot point in the fact that you submit a site to the directory and hang on the ball-and-chain checking to see if your site has been indexed.

submit, move on, wait a year, if nothing, submit again.
And during that years waiting, try to do something productive ;P

Its no secret that I am no fan of DMOZ but a waste of time submitting? It takes about the same amount of time to submit there as it did to post here. If you simply submit and forget like most people then this post wouldn't even exist...

Exactly. If submitting is a waste of time why waste more time complaining about it.
