DMOZ - Is it friendly to forums?

Hey forgive the first instance of this question. I didn't realize at first that thread was a dead topic that was dug up.

Anyway my question is basically how friendly is DMOZ or any large directory for that matter to forums? I just started mine its not empty but not a HUGE activity rate either. Do you think there is even a remote chance of it being listed? Or do that look at how much content a site has?

Still very new to all this.

A quick search of their site... http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=forums ... shows they have 84 categories that include the name "Forum", so they obviously list 'em.

Most directories do look at the level of activity when looking at the possibility of inclusion for a forum, it's a pretty standard consideration. The level they look for may vary depending on whether it is a forum niche that is extremely well represented or a category where there arent as many available & the category could use beefing up. The level they will accept will generally increase as the category gets built up to a reasonable size.

It follows that if your forum niche is pretty flooded with competitors you'll have a much lower chance if your activity is comparatively low, and a better chance as your activity increases.

My 2 cents, hope it helps. Good luck.:)

I don't reckon your site would be treated different by DMOZ editors for being a forum. Most probably it will be kept in the suggestion "pool" for ever. Just like any other suggestion. So, don't take it personally.

    My two cents...

2 years now and I am still trying to get listed. It's really hard to do so.

Your forum should be active, and have threads in each category... if your forum looks like it's either no longer used, or has too many bare spots expect the editor of your category to pass it by....of course, that's assuming an editor even bothers looking at the queue.

    Try reverse philosophy.
Submit your site and in Notes box write something like
I don't want you to list my site but I want you to read it and to enjoy it

One thing for sure, it will cut attention of some editor

    ;)

If by trying you mean you have made multiple submissions then that could be your problem. You could either get yourself banned as a spammer, or if an editor does work on the suggestions lists and chooses to do so in date order (if I tackle a complete list I would start oldest suggestion first) then second third fourth suggestions overstamp the original suggestion's date stamp, putting the site as being very young and I might never get that far down that particular list.

Suggest once, forget and find other ways to promote your website really is the very best advice.

Sure would I would think, if he don't want his site listed why is he wasting my time? Hit delete.

Are you saying that cool_78 is stupid or 3 years old child?

You sure talking to him as if he some kind of imbecile that needs lecture about
submission ethics and your job is to push his face in poop to teach him a lesson.

Does he looks to you as one of those who post in here to make his post count?

Well. I bet you like to spend your time making funny replies like this, before deleting suggestions without even viewing the site.

Its got no chance of getting listed.
DMOZ will only list a forum when its a valuable addition to a category, so you need lots of content and lots of activity.
