back up now after being down all day. hi annie --- oh submissions dont work ive been waiting to submit a page...!! Not Found The requested URL /cgi-bin/add.cgi was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Editing and a few other areas are still not working but the experts are working hard on the problem. Shouldn't be much longer. It's been nice to see we have so much behind the scenes support, DMOZ is far from dying. The powers that be really do care. My faith is strengthened. Hi Seiya! Sending hugs!
If they really cared Annie they would be investing in COPPA compliance and would have replaced the Admins with professional management who know what they are doing. Until that happens, spending a couple of thousand $$$ on server components (even a whole new one is very inexpensive these days, less than my first PC-XT) isn't going to plaster over the cracks. Unfortunately those costs are serious money - if AOL commit to that then I'll believe they care.
Great Experts and support that need more than a day to fix a hardware problem. They can as well go to one of the hosting companies that guaranties 99% uptime and it won't cost that much either.
It seems dmoz deactivated new url submissions... When tried it saying Not Found The requested URL /cgi-bin/add.cgi was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
It isn't deactivated. It just won't work until the editor's side of the directory is back up. It has nowhere to send the suggestion with the editor's side down.
Nobody can reach editor server, squirrels are killing anyone that comes near as if they are controlled by some evil genius. As if that makes a big difference.
It's been hard to get to for months. Down on and off, I guess. They should get themselves new servers (again).
People who don't read threads before they post Or guidelines before they submit. I look at some of the signatures of people who have noticed that DMOZ has gone down, wondering when it will come back, and it reminds me of hungry pirannahs swimming around looking for the next feeding frenzy. The major thing that is wrong with DMOZ is that people submit pure and utter crap and it takes too much editor time to sift through it for the sites that offer even a scrap of useful information for web surfers. To a lot of people here, surfers are just marks to take money from and DMOZ just another way of doing that. I honestly hope they never re-open any commercial submission pages ever again. Maybe then they can get some peace and start sorting out the mess.
Having some technical difficulties, nothing to worry about. It will be back soon enough so everyone has something to complain about.
Since DMOZ editors aren't busy, maybe they should check this out on GOOGLE CO-OP. Just noticed today that my profile page has changed. A few things need ironing out but there now exists a topical search engine function. Take a look: Topical Search Engine In particular, notice this: Cool, isn't it? I have created a topic, and now, others are invited to contribute to it. Google Co-Op is evolving before my very eyes. Join now while it's taking off. Don't miss the boat.
I am amazed! You can now team up with people you trust to build a topic! Way cool! Your whole topic, or only part of it - your choice! The custom search engines are awesome. I can't even begin to comprehend all the possibilities. I am really happy I invested the time I did to understand how Google Co-Op works before it gets too complicated. I am learning as the Co-Op evolves. DMOZ editors, fire up your Google Co-Op engine now while it's still relatively easy. Your work, if well done, will eventually make it on the Google SERPs. You can use the custom search engines to search material on groups of websites, whether just your own, or that you've categorized topically. Put the code to the custom search engine on your web pages! My, oh my, DMOZ editors on the dole because of lizards short-circuiting the servers, take advantage of this unique opportunity to hop on the Co-Op wagon. Don't miss the boat!
