    Hey y'all :)

I have two nice websites, the biggest Hebrew-German-Hebrew dictionary at hebde.org, and a new pretty unique multiplayer trivia website, at chaostrivia.com , because it is AJAX chat-based site.
I apply every two month for DMOZ, keep all their submission rules, and still don't get listed (don't even get any kind of email from them).
A lot of junk is listed though. I believe the editors there do a lot of "self-serving", i.e. accepting and denying according to own interests.

I find it hence extremely stupid from google yahoo etc' to respect DMOZ so much.

Anybody have any ideas for me how to promote my trivia website? I think it deserves much more than 200 hits per day.... after 2 month I already have 300 registrations which is not bad. I am willing ofcourse to spend $$ generously for a very good idea/offer

    i never submit to them...

nothing personal, but it's just waste of time.

i don't think i submit my site to alexa ranking too... coz i don't use alexa toolbar too..

ranking are just perceptions and measurements, even your site is not in first 3 pages of search results and you can earn massive traffic.. like some MMORPG game site, they have millions of members, you can hardly find them, they don't have archiveable contents but they are generating massive income with premium subscriptions and PPC...

You sound like you have a really nice website. Don't worry about DMOZ; it takes FOREVER to get in it, if you ever do...and Google is not respecting directories the way they used to. They are no longer recommending that webmasters submit to directories, even Yahoo.

Yea actually... my only competitor for the dictionary is milon.li (10,000 entries vs. 65,000 ...)

It has PR5 + DMOZ listing.
I Have PR2 and no DMOZ listing.

And yet I score higher in search results for the main keywords:
    "hebräisch deutsch" and "deutsch hebräisch"
    (= "Hebrew German" in German)

So I should be not mad on google after all

    LOL, not really.

it depends on how much backlinks you are having and how much outbound links your site has.

if inbound links, internal links and outbound links are relevant niche about your site, you will get more PR. but don't worry, these all doesn't mean anything..

the most important thing is ad conversion to clicks.. :)

    good luck

DMOZ hate Ads. You will not get pass, if you place ads on your site. I have 1 site on DMOZ. When i submitted to DMOZ i remove all my ads first.

I have a few pages in DMOZ but I never submitted any. I always think of DMOZ as one of those snooty country clubs where you never get in if you ask, someone already working there has to find you and put you in. Submissions to DMOZ are a waste of time. I also think DMOZ has far less sway with search results than it used to a few years ago.

Well i dont think submitting every two months is complying with their guidelines.

    Submit once, then move on.

To quote the thread title, Bu*l***t. What we hate is MFA sites and those with no discernable unique and useful content. We ignore the ads when evaluating the content.

We also hate people who deliberately try to deceive us. Would an honest and reputable website owner compromise his integrity in that way?

this is one of the funny think that i have read.

@jim: i have reported one spam web site to dmoz 18 MONTHS BEFORE AND IT DID NOT CHECKED TILL NOW. do you have anythink to say for this? i'm sure you have nothink to say.

because you (& all dmoz editors) know that dmoz is a (secret paid) directory.

    it's a secret know by everybody:p

dmoz loves spam web sites! and dmoz loves the web sites who pays to the editors

@trichnosis: I usually ignore your posts because they are generally just a bunch of unfounded hot air.

Yes it was checked and no abuse was found - as you were been told. We're happy for some websites to have multiple listings - and we're the arbiters of which sites do and which sites don't, not you.

That you didn't get the result you wanted doesn't mean that every editor must be a money hungry/corrupt/lazy. Continuing to claim so just makes you appear to be completely frothing at the mouth irrational.

Absolutely you are correct there are lot of directories,
but each directories have their own opt formula they follows it.

You can try elsewhere,if either accept or not.

I have given up on DMOZ, submitted my site over 2 years ago ... nothing wrong with the site, no ads, etc, etc. It seems to me that DMOZ no longer represents a driectory of quality websites, their business model depends on human editors who simply do not have the time to review and approve so many websites.
