It's much easier to get banned as an editor than it is to become one...

Paul: Maybe now you believe me? There are a bunch of d**** running some categories. If you happen to apply there, no chance.
I have one website on DMOZ but most others simply get rejected for absolutely no reason. DMOZ is corrupt.

I've been refused three times. Earlier this year, there was a "find the oldest unedited dmoz category" contest here on the forum. Dmoz editors were monitoring it. I live in a small city that has a section in dmoz and had two sites submitted there and the category hadn't been edited in over two years.

After listing the category in the contest post, an editor contacted me via PM and was kind enough to help get my two sites listed. I thought that was pretty cool to go out of her way to help (when everyone always seems to bash them). She suggested applying to be an editor in the category, since I lived in the city and there wasn't a current editor. It's a small city. So I applied (had applied twice in previous years and was declined) and sure enough, was declined again! Was kind of odd to have an editor tell you to apply for a small category you are qualified to edit, then to be declined, but I'm sure it wasn't her that declined it. Oh well! I was still thankful for her help. Had it not been for CA, I'd have two sites that would probably still be sitting in the que.

As for guidance, not sure what to suggest other than what others typically say; "submit it and forget about it." There's not really much else you can do. I have another site currently submitted that will probably sit in que for years. This particular site is in Yahoo directory, bCentral and Wiki. Would be awesome to round it out with a dmoz listing!

Here is where it gets a little fuzzy for me. I have read (I know, not first hand information) that they sometimes flush all submitted sites from their backlog if too much piles up. In that case resubmitting would be in order, although its against their guidelines.

I really wouldn't waste too much time with DMOZ. It does have a PR9 rating which will give your site a PR boost but you can get the same boost with a Yahoo Directory listing and a few add'l PR7 listings and without all of the frustration and waste. Additionally you will get almost no traffic from the site. DMOZ's days are numbered due the corruption and lack of standards.

    Good luck.

yep, just a couple of weeks ago - about 6 months wait. my sig site actually. but as i've said elsewhere (others have too), just submit and forget then it'll be a nice surprise one day. perhaps.

    good luck anyway.

Whats the next best directory to submit to then as i am fed up with Dmoz. Why even have a "submit url" on the site if they are never going to accept you!
