This has probably been answered before, but how many weeks after a DMOZ submission is it ok to email the editor and ask about your submission?

The site fits all the guidelines, etc. but if it hasn't shown up in 6-8 weeks is it ok to go ahead and email the editor and find out what's happening?

'Never', would be a good start. The longer in time you leave it, the further up the list you will go, while at the same time the list will get longer. You ask, then you're back to the bottom. It's a never ending vicious cycle, waste your time with Adsense, use the generated revenue to pay for a Yahoo directory listing;)

As always my answer is: forget about DMOZ.
What so special do you see in submitting to it?

It's dead, gives no traffic, doesn't bring any authority to your site, doesn't protect against filters or penalties.
Waste of time that you could spend on much more useful things.

Many editors would be offended if they were contacted by a submitter to list a site. I may many not all, because I'm sure there are at least some that would simply love to hear from you. It's a chance you should likely not be willing to make.

"Submit and forget" is the motto of many (both editor and non-editor) so just stick to that.

If you've read the guidelines and your site fits within those, and you've chosen the best category for your site, then there simply is nothing more you can do, short of becoming an editor yourself.

Never pay, as that has a high chance of backfiring, and don't pester the editors... that just annoys them ;)

Never email them hounding about your listing! Submit and forget - you applied for a free listing with them expect a free level of service from them.

I have been listed in DMOZ for 1 year and probably got less then 10 visits from it. the only thing its good for is categorizing your site in alexa

Editors are advised not to communicate with webmasters. Besides even if the editor would answer it's not even worth the 1 minute it would take you to write the email...
