Thanks for the advice, I guess I have to wait until it gets approve...I'm pretty sure our site meets the requirement necessary for approval. Regards,
It could take about a year to get listed on DMOZ. I registered 8 months ago and I am still not listed. Just wait, there is nothing you can do. Don't re-submit...This could cause a bann from the directory.
A year? That would be super-speedy in geological/ODP time. It could also take "forever" - your domain will be expired before anyone looks at it. You're not going to be banned for re-submitting unless you spam them like mad. This being said, DMOZ listings haven't had any measurable effect on the SERPs since 1999.
Is there any other directory submission sites with the same level of DMOZ? I tried to submit my websites before at DMOZ but it has never been approve, perhaps its because it's a new website.
they just approve non profit org related sites , I tried many times with my sites buy nothing happened.. just put a site up that looks like non profit organizatio for few days. hope they will approve it
Really? What about http://www.dmoz.org/Business and http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/ ? That's over 300,000 commercial listings right there, never mind all of those listed within http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/
Hi Jim, It's funny though that on this category http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Searching/Directories/ there is a re-direct, title does not coincide with the site. and the category editor even forgot or intentionally did not put any description. I took a glance at the profile and there was an award for best editing team. LOL. That does not look normal to me.
Nobody's perfect and that looks to have been listed by accident. I've unreviewed it for editorial attention.
but there are so many categories that fall under commercial listings. What's with Dmoz? that makes me wonder!
I wish I understood this comment. We list both commercial and non-profit sites but we are not in the business of spending our free time as a free listing service for web site owners, we are there to build categories and sometimes we use suggested sites to do that and sometimes not, its the editor who has chosen to work there who chooses which resource s/he wants to use. Anyone can volunteer to join the community and become an editor if they think they can pass the entrance exam, which involves showing that one can recognise where sites belong and understand guidelines to title and describe them, honesty, grammar and spelling are also important, but if you want to have a shot at it, instead of complaining about editors, there is a button on every page.
When filling out the application, do we follow the guidelines of take examples from the categories as what should be listed? If we take the categories themselves as what to add, then is it OK to completely ignore the guidelines? I mean some sites break multiple guidelines and were put there by staff even... so really, there are many conflicts of morality that must be resolved before anyone can truly pass such a test... I mean, if AOL can't even pass it, do they really expect others too?
I would strongly advise against this. Spending time on 4chan is actually more constructive than listing websites for the ODP. At least, there's an audience on 4chan.
Wow, you were a great help for me and I wasn't even the one asking the question! Thank you much for your post and sharing information.
This thread isn't about me; however, as I explained elsewhere, some metas/editalls were furious enough about the stupidity of it all to break the usual silence and inform me of the circumstances. The fact that the silence was broken should tell you that I was an exception, at least in that particular regard as far as you are concerned. Your usage of the expression "chucked out" betrays your own PERSONAL (and nasty) bias against me. Which is ironic, since despite my abundant contribution reminding webmasters to stop wasting their time fretting about their prospects at getting a quite useless listing, or considering listing websites themselves, I have been quite objective and active in dispelling the myth that ODP link listers are corrupt or take bribes. Also, I have generally refrained from attacking the ODP link listers that post here personally, although I did mention something to the effect that some of them have more loose screws than a hardware store (without reference to anyone here on DP). May I suggest that you keep on topic, and refrain from personal attacks?
DMOZ directory is mini search engine. If any web site approve by DMOZ directory. It give boost in many SERP like Yahoo, Google. MSN etc. Dmoz directory check all web site content, site structure, site map etc. After that DMOZ approve web site.
<sigh> No; it's a directory. Google says an ODP link gives no more boost than one from any other site. No it doesn't. No it doesn't. It just has to be navigable. No it doesn't. Only if it meets our Site Selection Criteria.
I was trying to submit my site couple of times to Dmoz, and it never worked, I really would like my site to be there, it can help with ranking of my site, how do I do it?Is there any company that guarantee placement over there?
