How inclusion to dmoz directory will help rankings? Why so many people are trying to be listed there? seems that it is very hard to be there.
And not that hard if you don'tworry that much about it. One of my clients submitted her site for a review without keeping pagerank in mind and twor of her site were listed the next month, the one she submitted (own domain) and a related one that she keeps hosted at Geocities and the editors considered as worthy.
You shouldn't forget that the DMOZ listings are syndicated across numerous other websites, so a single DMOZ listing may result in 100s or 1000s of additional links back to your site. The downside is that all the links will have the same anchor text, probably determined by the DMOZ editor rather than yourself.
I believe it may help, to get better place in google itself. Other then that it has a long waiting period before getting in it.
With DMOZ, just submit and forget about it, because by the the time your site gets listed, you probably would've sold it already, thats even if it doesnt get rejected at first.
It also depends on the catoegory. Some categories are well managed and new listings added more quickly, others are overwhelmed and can take forever.
dmoz is great pr but other then that its just another directory... i personally prefer putting my link on actual pages instead of directories tho.. seems to work alot better
I submitted my site months ago and still nothing. I had actually forgetten about it until reading this thread
It has always been difficult to get into DMOZ. PPL generally join it for a better PR. Also a DMOZ listed site is a proof of originality and genuine content.
Dmoz is good directory and the big one. I use google directory to be listed on dmoz...it's work (I mean submit site). You can try from google directory and follow the instruction. Please use small title like: sample search engine optimize and search engine strategy (bad) search engine optimize and strategy (good) Good luck my friends!
I've found to getting in DMOZ quickly is finding a category based on your locale then by category rather than general category as these tend to be full to the brim with other people suggesting sites. As mentioned above a DMOZ listing carries an air of authority as they are traditionally well vetted links.
To be included in DMOZ meen your site is relevant for a category. Google and other search engines have trust in relevance of DMOZ, so that directory give relevance to your site.
I wouldn't say that. Look to the results of google: some results arrive from DMOZ. And DMOZ help your site in regard of relevance, like any other directory where your site is submitted.
the moment you have your site listed on Dmoz you get over a thousand backlinks to your site, it is certnaly worth the try.
How come I am getting 404 mistake - URL not found when I click on submit URL after going all the way down to the catagory I need? Is smth wrong with DMOZ or am I doing smth wrong? It's been that way for a couple of days now..
I am supposed to ask the same question but good thing you noticed it too Dama123. How long is this page missing? No more submissions? Maybe it's got fixed. Nothing we can do but wait.
Success with DMOZ listings can vary widely depending upon the section you're interested in and how active the editors are. The unpredictability can be frustrating if you have a strong site in an undermaintained category.
Also, is there a way to get into Yahoo! directory for free for a commercial web site? If not, is it worth those 50-300 bucks per month? IS it reasonable to start from Yahoo! directory if my site is still in a sandbox? Or it would bring results fast?
