Google is now using the DMOZ description under my website title in the SERPs. Does this mean that it is not looking at my actual website description for the purposes of SEO.

In other words if I now put a keyword in the description that is not in the DMOZ description google won't pay any attention to it?

Google says that they will display the site description OR the ODP description DEPENDING ON THE SEARCH query. I do not have a source for that right now, but I am almost certain it was in one of Matt Cutts videos (Thats why I cannot find it).

    Also, check out:

    Hope this helps.

if your site does not have a meta description, google will use the dmoz description instead.

Then Google will use a piece of text from the content that contains the search terms. In fact, Google does this most of the time, and only uses the META or DMOZ descriptions when it can't find the search terms (for example when searching for site:www.domain.com).
