It takes AGES. Submit it once and move on to other things.

I would add here that I submitted several sites to DMOZ, around 5. Three of them are accepted. I noticed what is required is to have site with interesting content. It took abut 3 months for approval. Also, first I noticed jump in Google, and asked myself why is it. Then I noticed my sites in DMOZ. Whoever has good sites should give a try to DMOZ and be patient.

    Hi kobekkat,

Two of my sites are listed in DMOZ about two months ago and they also don't show up when searching DMOZ. If you search in Yahoo and write
linkdomain:yoursite.com you will find your site in DMOZ indexed by Yahoo.

The DMOZ search is not primarily a search engine, but more a tool for finding categories, so if you want to use it to find a particular site, you have to use just the domain: example.com . If you use the whole URL (http://www.example.com) it will always come up with no results.

However, AOL seems to be having some problems with things at the moment, so the search database has not been updated as frequently as usual. I think it is currently a couple of weeks (definitely not months) behind the actual directory, but editors know no more about it than you do, I'm afraid.

Just attempt to add it then forget about it.....go on 4 or 5 vacations then check it in a year.

Sorry, but there is absolutely no basis for this assertion. There are no time frames involved, and no promises made about if or when a suggestion will even be reviewed by a volunteer, let alone if or when it will be listed.
Therefore, there are no conclusions that can be made based on elapsed time.

Remember that suggested sites are nothing more than one resource editors might use when building a category. :)

In fact, as it was added to the directory more than 6 months ago, it is far more likely that the site was found and listed by an editor who did not even see your suggestion. That is the way most sites are listed, as I have explained. ;)

Does it matter what kind of site it is? Is a blog easier to get listed?

DMOZ takes time to get your site listed, its done by volunteers. I have a site I submitted and its taken almost two years to actually make it in the listing.

BE patient if you followed the submission rules correctly then you should see your listing appear.
