Not to Noobie, just TO most newbies who post here, here's the latest since you asked.. Who the hell are YOU anyway ? Likewise matey boy.. Lets get back on topic shall we ?
Who the hell are YOU anyway ? I might point out that the question was never answered. I might also direct you to http://www.goenglish.com/ThePotCallingTheKettleBlack.asp. And we are on topic.
What question ? Who the Hell are you ? What does it matter to you anyway as long as they have an opinon to contribute ? The topic is Extreme Pornography Minstrel. I don't think there is a category for Pots and Kettles in Adult. You're just trying to get the last word in. Feel free, you're boringly predictable in that area. Ignore the last few posts everyone they have nothing valid to contribute to this discussion on topic. NoobieDoobieDo, I did agree with you with most of what you had to say and your straightforward manner, as I do with Brizzie also.
Information for non-DMOZ editors reading this thread: Q: How do you know when you're hitting close to the mark? A: When DMOZ editors start resorting to the approved Resourceless Zone tactic of attacking the person hoping to distract from the issue.
No, I think you'll find I've been stating my own standpoint on the matter since page 3 of this thread. I have never once wavered and only re-posted in this thread to voice my agreement with another poster on his/her repsonse to the OP. Also saying that they shouldn't be discouraged from saying anything further when 'regulars' like you here have been somewhat disparaging. No, you do a bit of that yourself and I truly wish you'd let this thread get back on topic and deal with the issue at hand instead of hijacking the thread.
OK, back on topic... Is anyone working to get these disgusting listings and filthy descriptions removed or are you editors and the administration of DMOZ going to wait for lawsuits to hit AOL
With utmost respect to Mr.Brizzie. In the US, any legal entity should abide with CFR rules may they be for profit or not. Lets take Coca-Cola for example which is headquartered in Atlanta. Besides the Code of Federal Regulations, they are also obliged to follow the Annotated Code of Georgia in which are also covered whithin the County Regulations or City Regulations in which they belong to. They are international corporation but the laws are compliant to the US CFR, State Laws and County and or City Laws.
How do you know? You are not an editor and unless you claim some one has provided you with their password, so you can read the internal forum, you must admit that your post is just a made up story. It was exactly the point of illegality that scared them and this is also obvious from an Admin post in that thread that clearly states that judgment about legality should be based on US law. You can talk as much as you like about pro-active DMOZ stand and DMOZ guideline that states sites with models under 18 should not be listed but that is all just a bunch of BS to protect the listing of illegal sites that generate profit for editors in the form of commission from porn sites. How can you or an editor decide from a picture if the girl is 16,17 or 18? You can't. You know it and I know it and as long as DMOZ insist to list sites without 2257 declaration as required by US law, DMOZ editors are actively supporting the involvement of minors in porn industry.
You're talking, of course, about categories that are purely US based. No ? didn't think so. But what I think what you really want is a US 'edited version' of Dmoz which complies with US law right ? That's what you want. So ask for it then instead of infecting every possible thread here with the 'legal'/ 'illegal' stuff. Nothing is ever going to satisfy you unless all categories and all sites listed within Dmoz (even UK, Chinese, Icelandic and Asian for example).. sites bow down and are all answerable to US law, despite the categories being only being relevant to UK, Chinese, Icelandic or Asian resident surfers. Simple isn't it for you. For the 'Rest of the World' it's not so simple. Don't we count on the WWW Gworld ? What do you suggest we do ? If you answer one thing from this post then it's that. Please do. How does an Asian or UK site comply with US law ? And a lot of them don't in general non-Adult cats. What do we do about that ? So do the judgement thing you're so moral about and tell me where I stand listing UK sites that aren't lawful in the US, that'd be good instead of just going on, and on, and ooooonnnnnn about it. A US 'version' of Dmoz is what you want. Even then I think you'd still find something else to wave your flag at if that ever happened. You'll never be happy probably. And you're a corrupt editor yourself with self-confessed complete disrespect for the whole concept as a web presence anyway. I'm off to bed, the discussions here are getting kind of 'samey' here whatever and however interesting it starts off.
I could have explained the same thing as I have explained for you hundereds of times before but what would be the point? Some editors are only concerned with their profit from porn affiliate sites and some with being promoted, and it seems nothing else matters for these groups, not even involvement of minors in porn industry.
Exactly. It's pretty clear by now that she is never going to get this, gworld. Let it go. It's not like it really matters. The only thing that is going to effect change in DMOZ is pressure from outside. And for that, it really doesn't matter whether editors like shygirl understand it or not.
Minstrel I'm sick fed-up of you trying to insinuate that I'm some sort of thicko here and that I don't understand what is presented to me. I do understand that Gworld wants Dmoz to come under US law, especially pertaining to Adult areas. What you two fail to understand is that I'm asking how this will affect non-adult and categories that don't and cannot ever comply with it (being that they aren't actually relevant to the US ) and how they will fare under this should it come to that. I don't give a toss about the Adult ones. If Gworld wants Adult and only Adult to comply with US law then just say so ? So that the rest of us can get on with editing in non-Us areas without getting involved in these never bloody ending 2257 discussions and how ALL of Dmoz is 'flawed' somehow. Even editors who want Adult disposed of (?). Perhaps if you would just explain how we could list sites within Dmoz without worrying about the lawsuits you keep predicting ? Mabye then we won't need to keep defending Dmoz as a whole when our own non-adult yet still seeing a 'hmmm my cats wouldn't cut the mustard under US law actually' scenario. I'm sticking with my own experiences/cats here BTW (Non-Adult) which I have worked hard on yet are undisputedly and completely illegal under US law as it stands. I have not had this explained to me 100 times Minstrel. My non-adult professional categories are NOT legal in many states in the US. So how will I list sites there under US law ? How can I ? Thats all I'm asking and I'd like it explained to me step by step. If you would be so kind.. I just want a working example that's all. Sorry if it's too much trouble.
Really? That's fascinating. Thanks for sharing, shygirl. It doesn't alter the fact that in post after post you continue to very consistently demonstrate that you have no clue about the issues under discussion. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that's a fact. I'm simply explaining to gworld and others why I will no longer waste any time at all in trying to educate you and a few of the other DMOZ editors who are frequent posters here and also continue to miss the point. You don't get it. I'm okay with that. As I said to gworld, it's not like you have any power or will to change anything inside DMOZ anyway. There are only two possible outcomes for DMOZ now: Change or extinction. If it's the former, it will come as a result of external pressure. If the latter, it won't matter any more and no one will mourn its passing.
No luv I asked THIS You never answered or put forward a working example of what I should do under US law. Until you do have one I suggest you go off and have a little think about things, before opening your mouth and letting your belly rumble. I've asked a serious question entirely relevant to the issue at hand. You're answers are simple avoidance and distraction. Bafflegab and twaddle basically. Have you an answer Minstrel because you're starting to look a tad childish and foolish if not ? Anyway, I wasn't actually asking for your opinion TBH. I am more interested in others opinions. Gworld ?
Sheesh. You don't even seem able to comprehend my direct answers to your questions. Let me try to rephrase it one last time and then I'm sorry but you're on your own: You don't understand the issues here. That's either because you can't or you won't. Either way, I don't care because whether or not you understand will make no difference to the outcome. You have neither the power nor the will to change anything. I have no interest in educating you or your fellow DMOZ editors. There are none so blind as will not see. If you really want to understand, go back and re-read what I've posted in all the DMOZ threads in which I've participated here. I've been consistent in what I've said. Beyond that, you're on your own. Good luck.
...and with that Minstrel has exited stage left from this thread....... Lights off, see you guys in the next DMOZ thread..... PS: We still love you all.....
ODP is bound by US federal law and California state law. You should not be adding sites that you know to be breaking any of these laws. Keep in mind that it is possible for a particular thing to be illegal but a site on it to be legal. ie. possession of marijuana is illegal, but a site advocating legalizing the possession of marijuana is legal.
Actually the OP did think that I completely understood and put forward logical and straightforward answers, even if he personally disagreed with them. That is to be admired. OP : Seems you are in the minority Minstrel in thinking I need educated. Consistent yes, productive and willing to look at things from another viewpoint ? No, never. My categories are NOT Adult but ARE illegal under US law. I just want an answer as to how I could continue if I had to abide by US law in them. That is all. Food for thought and intelligent discussion. Not insults. No nothing quite so dramatic, I'm a UK midwife ? Do you need him to hold your hand in these threads hun ? Awww.
