I still bet that most of these stories are lies.

As for me wanting to be an editor, you're totally wrong. Both of my sites have already been approved and listed (without paying anyone), so I have no reason to want to be an editor.

Only a fool bets on pure luck with no information to support it. :D

Well, the thing kind of works both ways, and while I'll not go as far as to say "most" I will bet on "some" and possibly go as far as "many".

There is some evidence out there (pronounced ScriptLance) that supports some listings as being paid, but then, there is some evidence out there that makes some heavy claims, but comes up pretty short on the way of proof (including a lack of editor names).

So go easy on Billy...he's not that far off the mark. ;)

I will go as far as saying that "MOST" of the people that says DMOZ SUX because their sites are not listed are just blowing wind while they sit with a crappy page in another window. The evidence for that is plastered all over this forum...

There is evidence that it's false. A while back someone posted some links to a few decent PR categories that had PR0 pages listed in them, and that had been listed for YEARS.

Many believe that any PR bonus that DMOZ could have been offered has been nullified through duplicate content filters as the ODP get cloned and cloned time and time again.

In the end, a listing at DMOZ is no better then a listing in any other directory. And it does seem that Directories in general are now getting poked at by google, and NOT in a good way. They are getting dropped from the SERP big time, and many have dropped in PR as well. Tread carefully with ANY directory in these times...

Yes if you are listed it goes down. :D

Websites which have never been listed are number one in SERP while does that are listed are usually falling behind wikipedia, but then everything is falling behind wikipedia even if wiki article has no more then two or three words.
