Div Code Not Working In Css?

Hi,

Ive got a problem with my website im working on, ive done the html markup and am doing the css code right now. The navigation is all done and im working on the body now but when i put a div id in the css and put all the attributes it just doesnt respond to the index page?

Example: Lets say ive got this in html.index file

Is this right code for this?

im stil coding the site at the moment and have not hosted it yet im just using notepad but am not getting very far. The only thing that has worked it getting the layout in the center of page bij using margin tag but the rest of tags in css are not working im stuck on this since yesterday

any suggestions?

 

Can you post all of the html and css so I can see what exactly you got going?
