Distance / Postcode search

    I want to add postcode search functionality to a website I am developing.

    So a user can search for a given postcode, and then I can calculate the distance between that post code and any in my DB [so I can order by distance]

    Does anyone have ANY clue on how to do this? And if it can be done cheaply or for free?
