Hi there, My website offers British surname maps for about 100 surnames. I'm adding about 5 surnames to the list every day. On my main page I vertically list each surname as a link. This link will in turn take the client to a specific page for that surname where the map is displayed. Certain surnames are much more popular than others. Hughes is surprisingly the most common clicked link, followed even more surprisingly by Bennett. On my main page, I have a Text Ad (728x90) at the top, followed by two Picture Ads (160x600) which appear to the left of the long list of surnames. On the pages where the maps are displayed, I have the same Text Ad (728x90) at the top. Sometimes when I visit my website I see great ads like "Family kilts" and sometimes not so good ads like "5% off" at some takeaway restaurant. Ideally, I'd like to see ads like "Buy you MacDonald Family Kilt" when people are viewing the MacDonald surname map. How can I improve my adsense set up so that I can present more relative ads to my clients? Should I consider creating specific ads for specific surnames or can adsense establish what page it is on and how people arrived at that page? Thanks for your help, Barry http://www.celtifamilymaps.com
For geneology (that is a good keyword to have in your page btw) you'll get ads for ancestry.com the most. I only have a couple of geneology related pages on one of my sites but that's what I see. I know someone with a geneology site and they do quite well out of affiliate marketing for surname-related paraphanalia. Myself, I have Amazon affiliates linking to a bunch of trace-your-family-tree type books on those pages.
Some niches are very limited in terms of what ads are going to show. The paranormal niche, for example, is incredibly limited and worthless in trying.
You can also show more ads by writing famous people's biographies with particular surnames. Use your imagination
paranormal movie related sites or like ghost hunting, ufo hunting, bigfoot hunting paranormal sites? Cause I've ran a lot too and they didn't make me much $$$ I still run one that gets 10,000UVs a month and I might make $5/month.
