Displayed ads are not targeted to my content

    My page has one rectangular ad in upper right corner. But it displays alot of web design related ads (which my site doesn't relate to). How can I make sure these ads are more "targeted"? I filter out URLs of web designer sites but new URLs keep replacing those I filter.

    You can't target ads, Just give it few days until google knows what niche are you really in. Then it will display related ads.

    Personally, I've found it quite difficult to change the targeting once an advertiser bids on unrelated, off the wall keywords. :eek:

    There is a way in Google to "TRY" and get your ads to focus on certain text in your page. Are you familiar with the method?

    This looks as though it DOES apply and could help me. And what I now am wondering is would I need to include these two lines (above & below) the text I want the G-bots to focus on:
    <!--google_ad_section_start-->
    <!--google_ad_section_end-->

    What are your thoughts?

    Yeah Julie . . .that is pretty interesting. I am really curious if these two lines above & below any text within your HTML also applies. I think this is interesting.

    You can do section targeting to get relevant ads.

    There can be many reasons why un-targeted ads show. For example: if the amount of content on page is too low, page is new etc.

    Maybe there aren't enough advertising companies or people on your niche...that's why you don't get the correct ads....or maybe you just have to wait a little for google to "learn" what your site is about and send you the right ads....

    Many times this is a clear sign that your site is not seo optimized for your keywords. In wp, if you have lots of posts on each page, you'll confuse the Google bot, especially if the posts aren't related.

    Thank you to everyone who responded. I think these are the two magical lines of html I needed to learn about:
    <!--google_ad_section_start-->
    <!--google_ad_section_end-->
    above & below the actual text (in html mode of course), where I emphasize what I hope to have the ads target. The links have been appreciated. I wonder if I can use these as many places as I have ads on the page? I.e., if 3 ads max, I suppose using this code 3 times in html is OK?

    My solution that works 99% is that you remove the www part from your url. so instead of using http://www.danscartoons.com/ you should use http://danscartoons.com/ . You can do it with the help of Advance mod_rewrite function in your .htaccess file. I hope it helps you too.

    Thanks. I still have not added that:

    <!--google_ad_section_start-->
    <!--google_ad_section_end-->

    To my HTML as I am trying to organize another alternative layout on paper. But I have a 336 wide rectangle on that page that is now performing terrible....nothing happening and even one small link appears on that page after have filtered all the junk out. I'm also looking into how that other suggestion might help. Overall, this is the worst I have seen that page perform...only pennies I think.

    This is why you get those ads:
    The site can be optimized for your keywords by editing the copy. You can also put usage terms and other things on different pages.

    Tommy: I was looking at that text below the cell where I have that code pasted and wondered about that. It is good you mentioned it since I have new content I've written that I plan on pasting within that page. I need to strip everything out, re-write and add new content. I need to set aside some time but after posting here, the feedback has been great. As mentioned before: "muchas gracias"

    Since doing this, I am still only showing showing either one single text ad, or a public service ad. This is a 336 wide rectangle. I was wondering if I ought to empty my ad filter or wait for a while becase I did add these two lines:

    <!--google_ad_section_start-->
    <!--google_ad_section_end-->

    above and below my beginning of content and towards the end of the best content. Any insights appreciated.
