When posting on mobile, if you use a vanity URL (that redirects to another destination), that vanity URL will be displayed in the rich preview. However, if you post on desktop, the vanity URL doesn't appear, the destination URL appears. Note that for paid ads on desktop, you can manually input the URL to be displayed. E.g. foxtel-dot-tv is a vanity URL that redirects to foxtel-dot-com-dot-au. When posting on desktop, even if you enter foxtel-dot-tv the URL shown is foxtel-dot-com-dot-au. Even changing the Open Graph tags (og:url) to the vanity URL on the final destination page doesn't make the vanity URL display. Facebook seems to grab the destination URL instead. Does anyone know how to force the vanity URL to appear in the rich preview when posting from desktop?
Any thoughts on this? Even if someone can tell me they've tried and failed, that might be helpful. Thanks.
