Here's the story, there's a large shopping mall in Richmond, near Vancouver. Richmond has a very large Asian population and the mall was recently bought by an Asian investor (reports are he's not even Canadian, but haven't been confirmed). Anyways, as the leases came up for store owners in the mall, if they were not Asian their leases were not renewed, and he made no bones about it. How can this be anything but racism, yet the government has done nothing about it as of yet. One lady just spent $7,000 on renos to he hair salon and she's getting kicked out, an Asian is moving in a new hair salon, basically stealing the good will the owner built up as well as the money spent on the reno. I truly hope it is not over, but I'm disgusted it went this far.
Solve it with the free market: Quit shopping at the mall and spread the word so that other Canadians also do not shop at the mall.
I'm sure the mall will be fine as Richmond is over 50% Asian, people, especially Canadians have very short memories..
Seriously Roman, why should should the government be involved in forcing "tolerance" on private citizens and businesses?
This is blatant discrimination and if the roles were reversed the shit would hit the fan. It is also the law.
So what? Private citizens and enterprise have the right to discriminate against anyone they want. And even if they didn't, government power to regulate such discrimination would be misused into making affirmative action laws. Or wait, that already happened; I need to go protest.
