Discrimination against Gingers

I'm from the US but I saw a show about discrimination against redheads. In the UK they referred to them as gingers.

I am a firm believer that they are discriminated against especially males or perhaps only males. Female redheads are considered special, exotic or especially sought after, but not males. Everyone learns not to discriminate against skin color, ethnicity or religion.

Women tend to go after only tall dark and handsome men.

A friend of mine once said "the dark skinned peoples didn't like me because I was white and the whites made fun of me because I was different and had red hair".

Do you make fun of gingers? And women do you automatically reject a male with red hair? Blond hair?

I'm guessing the show in question was South Park. Cartman made a presentation about people who suffer from "Gingervitus" and claimed they had no souls. Then the other kids dyed his hair and put freckles on his face while he was sleeping, so he thought he had become a ginger. He goes on to lead the gingers in a Nazi-like rally until the kids who made him a ginger told him what they did so he'd stop his anti-nonginger crusade.

I've never discriminated against redheads, and I have several friends who are redheads. I did tease them about it after the episode aired, just as they tease me when South Park makes fun of my religion or physical traits.

No. This was a documentary, not a joke.

I'm going to venture a guess: it was a documentary and a joke. While I'm sure some redheads have been hated on for their hair color, so have people with freckles, bald people, fat people, skinny people...I don't think that ginger discrimination is anything too many of us should be worried about.

My wife is a redhead - it was half the reason I married her :) Gotta love those fiery redhead hotties :D

No it wasn't a joke! Not a full length documentary but something like 20/20 or dateline. there was a group of "gingers" fighting for the right to not be bullied.

Yes your wife is my point. Redhead females are considered special, exotic unique while males are not. I would venture to guess most every female I have contact with wants someone darker than her hence the term "tall, DARK and handsome....not tall, LIGHT and handsome.

Where I come from people are typically of Irish or Scottish descent - red hair is as common as the name Shamus. Maybe it's an issue somewhere in the world but, besides that hilarious South Park episode, I've never even heard the term let alone the issue.

Well, I've never bullied a redhead or known of one that got bullied because they where a redhead.

But for myself personally, I generally don't like redheads for romantic interests. Don't mind being friends with them, but have no physical attraction to them - so no relationship.

(I know, looks aren't everything, but I'm not going to lie and say they don't matter at all. I can't kiss - or have sex with - someone I'm not attracted to).

Though, I can see what you mean. While I'm not attracted to redheaded guys, I have seen a few redheaded girls that I thought were pretty - which made me think about getting my hair dyed red when I was younger.

So redheaded girls might have it easier, but I've never heard of anyone getting bullied for it.

Agreed - red haired woman do have it better, but woman tend to be beautiful across the board. I have to admit that I'd have to subtract a point or two from my own rating if I had red hair :D

    Exactly. People are so shallow.

If you don't mind me asking what color of hair would someone have to have in order for to "like them enough for romance".

At least you wouldn't mind being friends with them. Thanks for your honest response.

Would you subtract a point two if you were black? Had blond hair? Black hair?

I don't really think it's shallow though, just natural. There are some people you are attracted to, and some people you're not, right?

And looks aren't everything, just a small part of the equation.

I mean, I've had some guy friends that I've gotten along with great, but there was no physical attraction between us so it never went beyond friendship.

And I don't really have a preference for hair color. But, in general, I'm not attracted to redheads. However, if I did find a redheaded guy that I really liked, I would give it a shot. I'm not going to refuse someone based on their hair.

But my opinion might be a bit biased because there was once a redheaded guy who liked me. He had some..mental problems, was a bit rough, and had no respect for my personal space (first met him when he came up behind me, picked me up and ran his hands up and down my body). I was actually afraid of him and thought that he might try and rape me one day. So redheaded guys always make me think of him.

red heads are direct descendent's form the vikings of southern Scandinavia (Denmark, lower Sweden/Norway) blonde's coming from northern Sweden, Finland and Norway.

But northern Europeans are a unique race, the only race with 10 different hair colours and 8 different eye colours. were at best the rest of the planet has two colours black and brown hair/eye colour.

Those are a bit different opinions.

Please humor me just a little longer.

There are really only about 3 other hair colors

    Black
    Brown
    Blond

With black making almost all the worlds population. Which of those would you consider worthy of relationship, kissing having sex with? Must a man have black hair or would brown or even blond be worthy of consideration?

Exactly. The entire world basically looks the same as far eye and hair color except for a small minority. Just a pet peeve of mine but the Americans I hear calling for diversity actually want everyone to look the same (black hair/black brown eyes)....the exact opposite of diversity.

Thats beside the point here but I like to make that point occassionaly.

I don't favor one over the other. I've liked guys with black hair, brown hair, and blond hair. Even people with multicolored or dyed hair.

But so far, I haven't come across a redheaded guy that I was interested in. If I DID find a guy I liked and he had red hair then I wouldn't mind hooking up. But IN GENERAL redheads don't catch my attention.

But hair color isn't the ONLY part of physical attraction. Everything has to work together nicely.

I'm not shallow just because I don't like EVERYONE out there.

I said up there ^ that I've even liked people with (unnatural colored) dyed hair. However, I don't like green hair - does that also say I'm shallow?

well we have the diversity here in northern Europe and i believe we need to keep it. it is estimated that within 300 years there will be very few natural blonde's left and they will centre in northern Finland.

what makes northern European women so wanted and prized by the rest of the world is our unique looks. being a northern European female on the internet, opens you up to abuse by middle eastern men and African males trying to get you to visit them, with offers of free holidays and payments for sex. if they think i am going to fall for something like that they must be crazy.

my mom was a red head, (though i was Adopted by her) she had a temper like so many other red headed women i know. but i think it has nothing to do with the hair colour, just the personality.

i have dated with red heads both male and female, i find no difference in either.

Or Reds. Which makes me wonder why we are so eager to rid the world of blonds.

You cannot keep blondes from dissappearing without equally prizing blond males who produce those children as well. Which was part of my point. In almost all cultures today the dark colored male/light colored female syndrome is alive and well. Already perhaps only 5% of the worlds population has light hair and eyes. They will be gone soon but I hear no "cries of extinction" from them.

I find alabaster skin, red hair and blond hair, freckles etc etc. to be beautiful and departs from the normal drudgery of black hair and brown eyes (although I find them beautiful as well).

Yet it takes a male and female of any genetic background to keep it going.

Some day we will all have the same color it seems, and maybe its not such a huge issue but I see that as boring. People want to fit in so theyll mate with the majority out of fear of not fitting in.
