Discrepancy between SSN and Taxpayer name?

Got an interesting e-mail from google...

Now I'm no tax wiz, that's for sure. Isn't my payee name supposed to be my first and last name? When I checked over my social security card, I noticed it has my first name, middle initial, and last name... is that what my payee name should be?

I normally have no problems with Adsense so I've never had to e-mail them, but now that I do, I can't find any way to e-mail them.

I got the same email. I believe its supposed to be the same as your bank account.
If your social security number as your first and last name - the same as your bank account, then you should be fine.

What are you talking about? How could you misspell your name?

Does Adsense have your SS# on file? The IRS now has the ability to compare ss#'s to individual names in a more elaborate manner and if there is a discrepancy - such as no ss# associated with your name on file with Adsense - then the IRS will notify Adsense, and hence the email.

Last year, if you earned a minimum $600.00 USD, then Adsense sent you a 1099-misc. They also sent one to the IRS. It took all this time (February 28, 2007 through now) for the IRS to contact Adsense regarding discrepancies with names and ss#'s.

I received the same email and I know for a fact Adsense does not have my SS# as I refuse to enter it online. I suggest verifying your account info with Adsense to ensure your name and ss# are corect. Also, take a look at the 1099 you received last year from Adsense to see what is indicated as your name and ss# (recipient's id #).

I received the same email and can't figure out what the problem might be. My SS# and W9 are on file with them, my name and address are correct, and there's never been a problem before -- for 5 years. Their email was sent "no-reply" but I'll try to get an answer. I can't fix a problem I don't know about.

Adsense has my social security number. I used it to fill out my W9 or whichever form it was. My Adsense name is my first and last name. My social security card has my first name, middle initial, and last name, and I'm wondering if maybe that's the problem.

Either way, I need an official word from Google about this before they start sending a part of my income to the IRS... what would be the best way to contact them? Or what is their support address?

I asked my mom who does all my taxes for me - and she said it doesn't matter. Your SSN includes your first and last name, so there shouldn't be a problem with that.

Then I don't see what else could be the problem .

thats it, ask your mom. Theyre saying your SSN doesnt match, you have a middle initial on your SS card and say you didnt put it on adsense, then put it on. My SS card doesnt have my mid initial.

I guess I should add I went as far as registering on the IRS website, where they had to mail me a PIN number. I got the PIN today, logged into the system and everything looks fine. I then see some link for TIN Matching. I click that and It has my name as the "Principal" and it asked for my phone number. I am just acting as a contractor so it says to re-enter your name as the "Firm" and enter your social as the "TIN". I enter this info and I get errors about my "TIN" not matching. I'm really starting to get pissed off with this. Why does google always seem to find a way to delay payment? Or, I hope this is just a spoof.

I'd call the IRS. They are going to start playing around with our money 14 days after the email was sent.

Response! But nothing that helpful :(

I changed my business name to my first, middle initial, and last name on my tax information but I'm not even sure if that will help. Ugh.
