Hi. I've read a few ebooks in my time, and the vast majority of them have a disclaimer in them. That said, the majority of books I read are about making money. So, anyway, I'm writing an ebook on online dating, but I'm not sure whether I need a disclaimer or not. If yes, what sort of stuff do I put in it? Thanks!
Disclaimers are good way of extending what rights, do's and don'ts, what you can claim or not, legalities, etc... If you are writing an ebook for online dating, try to put on your disclaimer that the information you wrote does not necessarily depict real people or, it may have been effective for you and may not apply to others, or, you are not endorsing any dating site, or, your ebook is for informational purposes only and not to be used as reference or some sort... you can go on and on with anything that will make you safe and harmless on some situations. I will give you an example, let us say Jane Doe read your book, went to a dating site you might have mentioned or suggested, and met a guy on that site, dated and she got raped or what... now Jane Doe says to the authority she got the information from your ebook... now what do you think is the implications on your reputation or any other stuffs that will affect you as a writer? I think you will get the clear picture on that part.... Just put all information on your disclaimer what will put you out of harms way...
its not necessary but it is meant to protect yourself so if you have your name in it and are giving advice then you want to make sure your ass is covered - and you dont need to start from scratch there are all kinds of templates for stuff like this that you can get and just edit to match your needs
