Disappointing Visitor to Contact Us Ratio - Why?

Please take a look at this site and give me your opinion as to why the ratio of visitors to contact us enquiries is so low:

    http://www.hillierupvc.co.uk/

The site is only 2 months old, has PR4 and gets 90-100 uniques a week, which on previous sites I've found is enough to generally get 1 contact per week?

I've yet to optimize for Yahoo, and it only ranks for less competitive terms like 'upvc cwmbran' in Google, but is page 1 for all desired terms in MSN:

    e.g. upvc windows

Any help improving things greatly appreciated :)

Looks like a pretty nicely designed site.

I wonder about whether you need to change you text to make it more focused on benefits. In this regard, the page titles could be a bit more compelling - less description and more call to action:

"uPVC Conservatories and Porches" - descriptive but not compelling

"Keep Cosy and Save Cash with uPVC Conservatories and Porches" - keeps the descriptive element but adds a benefit = good insulation will save you fuel bills as well as keeping you nice and warm.

You might want to try a live chat solution that allows you to proactively interact with people on your site. You are selling a high-ticket item, so any "human" interaction you can have with your visitors will really help. Check out http://www.phplivesupport.com/.

I would add a small arrow to the left of "Contact us now" and then change the other text in that button to "Click here to email us. You will hear back in 24 hours!"

These are just a few ideas that should help.

Maybe it's because you're located where people doesn't actually search for your service. From your about page, I can see
    Hillier uPVC Systems

    Units 2/3 Two Locks Road
    Two Locks
    Cwmbran
    Gwent

Sorry, but I don't even know where that is located... do you understand what I mean by that? It's hard for you to sell something if you don't target a specific region (especially for the kind of job you are doing)

Same as tomzx, in the main page you should let the user know where you operate otherwise all they see is a bunch of pretty pictures in some random place in this giant world.

Let me suggest that it's not any of the above, but rather you're just not getting targeted traffic. If you're selling a service here, why not try to bring in very targeted traffic with PPC (Adwords, YPN, etc). You are soliciting business contracts, and the 150/week you're getting may consists of people looking for information about uPVC, etc, who don't necessarily want to hire you, which can account for your poor conversion rate.

If you are fishing for contracts, doesn't it make sense to spend some money on advertisements? You can write your ad copy in such a way that it is specifically targetting people looking to hire a uPVC contractor, so you won't lose money on people just looking for information, etc.

It's worth considering. Why not allot some budget for PPC campaigns and try it for a week. If you are getting clicks, but no conversion, then you can stop it. Sometimes it takes money to make money.

Well, if you're actually going into the PPC market, I'd suggest you to use the region specific option in Adword. The service you offer is, in my opinion, for local use so being targeted, you'd get the most by selecting specific location, keyword, etc. This way you won't get too much competition since you took the time to optimise your ads.

    Thx ppl, some great advice.

I agree it is a lack of call to action first and foremost, coupled with the regional setting. The company does supply nationwide in the UK for self-build and trade, I think that needs to be pushed across way more.

In terms of a call to action, the first thing I tried was that 'Contact Us Now' banner, and that significantly increased hits to the contact page, but generated no more enquiries.

Thx, plenty of ideas to work with, including ppc.
