I have spent a bundle on directory submission from different providers and I must be in at least 500 directories. However, I don't see any of this submissions becoming back links at google. Is this kind of service worth it?
You will find alot of these directories you're submitted too are in pages deep within the directory that are not even indexed by Google and thus not showing up as a backlink. Try another backlink search tool. Google never shows ALL of your backlinks anyway. Google says on one of my sites that I have 90, when on MSN link: tool I have 2,000.
Yes of course it is worth it, but you need to submit to quality directories to see the benefits Quality directories are spydered by the major search engines, thereafter your links will be seen on G
Quality directories are better to submit to. Although as Joss says Google never shows all of your backlinks. It tends to be all the higher quality, relevant links that Google will show. It can't hurt to submit to as many directories as possible though.
One way to find directories where your link might have a better chance of showing up in google as a backlink, is to do a search on your competitor's sites. Let's say for your site, you enter your keyword(s) into google and get a list of results. Now take the domains for that first page and use the link:www.somedomain.com command in google, like: link:www.somedomain.com directory This way, you can identify directories that google shows as backlinks for your competitors, and submit your site to these. Another think I like to do is enter my keywords in quotes followed by directory and submit, like: "mexico web hosting" directory submit This will identify the highest ranking directories for your keywords that might be worth submitting to. I've had good luck with this method in getting some minor traffic when my site is not ranking for very competitive keywords yet.
Just because Google doesn't show links in their backlink search query doesn't mean that they're unaware of them and don't count them. Getting hung up on directory submission isn't worth the time. You're not going to get good rankings from submitting to 500 generic directories. You need to focus on getting links from related sites.
How long or how many are necesary to see some results? You know, links form free / cheap submision services.... The same question for good paid ones
Even good quality ones I wouldn't worry about. I'd rather spend cash on a relevant link from an on-topic site than a general directory.
you are right .. i have tried this same thing but didnt work for me! i wanted to increase my page rank but it was all useless !
Hello.. Google is not showing all the backlinks. Always submit into quality web directories. Quality is more Important than Quantity.
I should have mentioned that I was talking about directories such as Yahoo dir and Business.com Still think it's worth submitting to them, since Google even mentions the Yahoo dir in its webmaster guidlines.
So you spent a lot of money on directory submission? Well how long has it been since you have substantial amount of links in those directories? You may want to continue your submission and come up with variety of different articles. Even if you submit one article a day - you can have 365 articles a year. Submit them to important directories such as iSnare or ezinearticles. Your article will be picked up by hundreds if not thousands of publishers. Give some time (I would say a year) and you will have lots of IBLs.
Sometimes many of these link directories are not quality and have low PR so Google doesn't update them as often. On the other hand, some "dirty" directories have a "nofollow" tag so that your backlink does not get recognized. I would only go for directories that have PR and are not reciprocal link farms. They should also give you the option of submitting it in the right category (the clearer the better) or else it's not worth it.
True, though I'd only submit to Yahoo as a free submission, there's no way I'd pay $300, I could get a lot of relevent content links for that kind of money.
Is there any tool to make it semi-automatically (something similar to Arelis in concept). I mean the one which searches the directories and keeps the my site's profile.
First of all, you'll have to make sure the links were submitted to Search Engine Friendly Directories or not? If your link exists on a page like www.directory.com/category/subcategory/detail.php?link_id=5719&c_id=45 , it won't help on search engines. Also, were the directories to which your links were submitted had a PR 2+ Page rank? There are lots of new directories that are promoted on DP everyday. Submiiting to them won't help you for maybe a year or so. Also, most directories have their pages in Supplemental Results on Google. You wont see them as backlinks on Google.
Well, I don't know if it matters or not. But as long as it does not hurt, why not try it? I would not spend a bundle on it, though.
