Disabling right click and SEO

Hi, I am doing link building for a client and I just realized that all the site has this script:

    <script src="clickderecho.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

on the head section. It seems to disable the right click function. I know this is less than effective to protect content but my concern was SEO. Could that line affect rankings? This affects usability and could be affecting how the search engine index the site but I am not sure.

Tell me if this has happened to you.

That is a good question. I don't think it should have an effect on crawling the site per say. However, I have absolutely zero metrics to back up that claim nor can I find a discussion on the matter. So I further would think no.

That said, you can easily answer this yourself, I would imagine, by watching what happens in your google webmaster panel for that site. The google site map area will tell you if there is a problem spidering something.

    hope that helps,
    Nigel

It shouldn't have an effect on indexing or SEO. But what else does it do outside of blocking "view source"?

it doesn't have anything to do with SEO cause SE bots dont right click on your site. they go straight for the page source

I don't think it really effects anything whatsoever, in terms of SEO or protecting content, since you can still use plugins that allow you to go around right click disables.

    javascript + seo = nothng.

Unless spiders right click to index pages, then I think one is safe.

I don't think it affects SEO. But I don't think you need to disable right click either. I can just disable javascript in my browser and I can then copy the contents easily.

Please check the website and tell me if something else could be not so search engine friendly. The link is my signature.

Search engines do not read javascript anyhow, so no it will not have any effect on your SEO campaign. Look into Lynx browser so you can get an idea as to how your site looks to the search engine bots when they hit your site. As for the javascript, you can still view the source, just go to view/page source or use SEO Quake for firefox that will auto pull the source code. You could even just disable javascript in your browser and people can still see your source code or even pull pictures from the site.

Yes, nothing to do with search engines. But if you think user point of view, it will irritate many users and I guess you should check your bounce rate!
