$8600 for a web directory "www. directorydelux. com" on ebay today. Anyone think its worth this amount of money?
For a free directory probably not, but all depends on revenue. 12 months / $8600 = $716 month i don't think delux is getting that. Do you have the link to e-bay?
Here is the link: Ebay Link Seller says that he doesn't advertise or pay for any links, not sure looking at the backlinks they seem to be on "paid sitewide" positions on other high ranking sites. Cheers
Found it http://cgi.ebay.com/Top-Alexa-27-50...8365890QQihZ008QQcategoryZ46689QQcmdZViewItem Ok, Revenue comes from sitewide link selling if you can generate $1,000 month on link selling with no expenses $8,600 is really a bargain . But for keeping the PR6 the new owner will have to spend money to keep and build new links so will have expenses.
hmm .. wow mayb its worth tht much to the end-user... i wouldn't pay that much... who's the buyer... maybe i'll get a grand for my PR 0 directory.
hard to say, some directories have surprised me when it comes to how much they actually make, if the seller knows how to market, then he can drive up the sale based on his income. But what people forget is the fact that income doesn't always mean value of a directory. What matters is potential. A directory can make 3-8k a month with a motivated owner, but if the new owner doesn't keep up the pace, it can easily drop down to 500 - 1.2k within a month or 2. - Mike
For me is really easy all comes to profit. If a directory makes $500 a month after all expenses paid, could value from $5,000 to $6,000. If you are paying more the buyer is thinking that could improve revenue.
First without focusing on the price, lets consider the point of sale eBay where prices can be so hit and miss that the sale price can easily be too high or too low relative to the actual real value of the product. But say it was valued at 15 times monthly revenue which is approx 573USD Per Month x 15 = 8595USD say $8600 An average selling price would be 12 times monthly earnings Hard to say its real value but for sure this thread will act as a marker for future sales relative to DP Members who decide to sell their Directories
Sometimes factors play in which we don't see, maybe the directory works well with the rest of the new owner's sites, maybe he likes the look. Who knows ...
It's the internet... sh*t happens, things sell; some for more, some for less. pic = it's the internet, so expect the unexpected. (kind of like that god damn gaygle bar update that's around the corner) edit: to add on... This thread will indeed be used as a marker like britishguy said. It will also be an indicator of people who are going to compare their directories and say how much better theirs are and how much more they think heirs is worth. And of course they will factor in PR and the blah blah blah of it all. I'd like to ask an honest question; What is the selling point for all of you directory owners? Do you have a selling point or are you really in for making a real directory? If someone made you an offer of mid to high x,xxx would you sell your directory tomorrow?
Agreed 100%. Just follow some of the high profile domain names, that is proof. Here at DP you don't get too many surprises, out on ebay you do.
Ok, like I posted earlier, it’s regular business if you can make $700 with no expenses it’s a good deal, what I don’t believe is that you can keep revenue without expenses. The big problem after sales like this more “Quick Buck Crew†will jump on the directory bandwagon.
Everything as is selling value, but probably more important is to who you sell it, if you have a directory that people have paid to be in, you have a responsibility to then to find a good owner that will at least keep if not improve the quality and promotion of the directory or refund people that want to. on the internet is usual 10x to 12x monthly revenue, but other factors can influence, cost to replicate, domain name, perceived value, barriers to entry etc.
