Hope this is the right place for this question.
I would appreciate the forums thoughts concerning having a directory within a website. It would be for site-related links. Good practice, or not? thanks

I think it´s a good practice. It will add deep links to your site.

It depends on the type of site. If it is an e-commerce website, you really don't want to send (potential) customers to another website.

I have a directory in one of my sites, a very big directory at that. I think it has like 800,000 listings or so. It works nice and brings in a bunch of extra traffic. I'm sure none of it converts because it brings traffic form searches like:

"Cabinet Company" 3349 long run road, 88892

But it's traffic none the less.
