Directory with the best categorization

Which directory according to you has the best categorization ?

I am working on building some categories for a new directory and would like to see what you guys feel is nice and complete, could take a hint from the experts.

Now i am not talking Dmoz, but one that can be manually created (not coping, just looking for some insight)

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Also, do u have a seperate "travel category", i personally experience the maximum submissions to this category and want to seperate it from the Recreation category.

I always think a good categorization in a directory is one of the most important SEO you can do.

I like all those neat mods, but when it comes to SEO, unique description along with unique categories seem to be more effective.

It is unfortunate that the category dump mod is encouraging people to have same/very similar directories.

I think a seperate travel category is a must. And I agree with coolsitez that you need to write keywords and descriptions as well as titles for each category in order to seperate yourself from the others.

    Agreed

The only fear i have of using a directory dump is to keep empty categories.

With the same link structure, it wont be long before the SEs brand your empty pages as supplemental and then its a much longer process to come out of it

    Added :: Thanks Marlin,

I too personally feel that the travel category is the most neglected category in a directory, atleast the free ones i submit too.Trust me, some free directories donot even have a travel category

Agreed as well, I'm trying to avoid that with my new keyword directory in some cases you may have just add some listings on your own, time comsuming but worth it if you have the time.

..::evil::.. you are tempting me to steal off your dir

You have them nicely covered and well i guess i could do a real estate main category as well

p.s.Just suggested a new category at your keyword directory, i could use one as "Directory Resources" under the "Web Directories" category

i have a directory blog to submit :D

Added the Directory Resource category as well as a Directory Submission Services category, got a few sites were looking for this category so thought I would add it as well.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

Well, I like the Category Structure of my own directory. Thats because I have added all the categories myself and haven't used any category dump.

I think if you have done your efforts to add categories yourself, its much better than any other using a pre-made structure. (If not the best)

I do have a top Category "Travel" but sadly, I haven't got any submission there yet.

Your effort will pay off in the long run

Yup, thats structure rocks and i guess "forums" are hot to, i saw a lot of submission in aviva for that category too..

I guess we all have to wait for a good PR to get the submissions going

Do you plan on having a Regional category as well? There are a lot of websites that focus on a town or region, but they don't really have much to do with holidaymaking and in some directories the travel category is the only logical place to put them.

Of course, the major problem with having a regional or travel category is always going to be if you base your subcategories on a continent > country > structure then you end up having to copy the structure of a lot of other directories.

    Yes definetely

    Regional > country structure

The plan i have to keep the pages different is by adding quality bulk listings to make the page content look different, the common structure cant be helped.

The regional category would basically be for the non-english sites i would be listing in my dir

I think that it would work and the only SE penelty i could see is in the case where i have empty categories

But thanks for the warning, will do my best to steer away
