okay I've got an extra domain sitting around doing nothing, and some time on my hands. Here's what I'm thinking, A directory where you can submit your first category for free, but every subsequent directory listing is like a dollar. that is per domain. Also allowing for page sponsorship. But what would you guys want if you could have input into the building of a directory.
it would be controlled by domain and not user access, if the domain is in the database it kicks it out.
And no redirects counting the clicks. Also make each category rank well so the submittees (is that a new word?) get good localrank bonus from the entry.
Id like to be free for specified time frame (for encouraging more sites faster) with link exchange required (for building PR).
I don't know what I was thinking.... here's what I'm going to do, you pay one dollar to add the domain you'll get one additional submission, bogo! I don't think a buck is too much to ask for anyone to submit, I'll also be randomly adding links as I add in the categories, I will not be submitting to any SE's till after the new year to give me some time to get the categories and sub categories out. I'll release the url by the end of the week after I get the look down I want.
I always like it when the directory catehories have some intro text. Can help with on-page SEO and 'theme-building' as well. Instead of just a long list of links it could have some text with some keywords in there to make it easier for the SE's to establish what's the page's are about.
so you'd rather see Arts The humanitys blah blah blah instead of Arts Movies, Television, blah, blah, blah
Not so much the main page but yes, as soon as the page has a subject, i.e. your in 'Health & Beauty' I'd like to see a intro paragraph with some schpiel about the subject and then below that the links. Just my personal preference but I'd reckon the SE's like it too.
okay after looking at like tons of different options I've decided on the system i'm going to use, how much to charge NOTHING. I will though be offering premium or sponsored links and banners on the site. Once I get the logo done I'll put up the url. anyways, I'll get the basic categories up also and allow user submission of requested sub-categories. I don't plan on this being a money making venture(rarely do some of these projects even break even) I just hope to help some people get the PR and SEO they need through extra links and all that fun stuff. also forgot to mention to submit a link you will have to join, but that's just for me to keep track of how many you submit and everything. In the future I may start charging for memberships if it gets very large, but I'll grandfather those that join early
I like your free submission option business model. It’s the right way to go if you want to develop a truly good directory. I hope you’re ready to work your tail off!
above is an example of what the link and the intro text will look like. Any comments? the title, and url are both natural links. no tricks or anything like that. p.s. that is not the domain I'm using, yet another money draining project
It probably is. Then it's OK. I overlooked that one... But then you dont need the http:// part of the url below it. It's nonsense to display that. Unnecessary overhead. And best to not make that url link to avoid diluting the power of the anchor text.
okay, I might leave the url up kinda like how adsense looks just not link to it. It's kinda a nice system i installed the user just submits the info within 48-72 hours I'll verify and it will be up if everything is good. I have to get my legal notices written too I guess.
i thought this was going to be a post about what our (directory owners) wishes are i was about to write bunch of directory wishes
