Directory VS social bookmarking

Is Directory is important or social bookmarking to increase the SERP's in google?

Any one can suggest me..

Both have there own importance. Also look at your analytics report to check from where you get the significant traffic. Also directory submission is a slow process and you can have to wait for couple of months to get the results.

 

That was a good one there, Sumitsparx. I prefer social bookmarking to submitting to directories; though both are good. Getting listed in directories could be quite frustrating, and some do request for payment, too.

well there is no comparison between directories and social bookmarking but when it comes to importance so social bookmarking is much worthwhile than web directories.

 

Both directory submission and social bookmarking are an important tool as far as SEO is concerned.. The results in directory submissions take time to come but eventually you end up with your site getting indexed by major search engines as well as you benefit from quality back links..

Social Bookmarking also helps in getting traffic to your site.. Apart from these two, there are some other methods like article submission, forum postings etc. These also play a significant role in getting traffic and increasing SERP's but if done in a correct manner.

 

yes... and with web 2.0 spreading its wings into the open sky of google, social networking and social bookmarking has gained more importance than the slow motion directory submission. Nonetheless, directory submission help gain relevant back links. so, its good to submit links in directory and forget about it and continue working on regular SEO.

 

Directory is the best method for increasing backlinks and boost SERPs because they will give you one-way backlinks...
But on my opinion, you can input the articles including your site link include your keywords there and submit it to social bookmarking sites...
social bookmarking and directory sites have the best effect to boost your ranking on search engine..

 

It seems that quality of the website is more important rather discussing with directory or social bookmarking websites. It is the quality and do follow link which is going to pass link juice to you website.

 

i feel directory submission is good than social bookmarking as we can see the result very soon with directory submission than social bookmarking

 

I would not waste my time submitting to either. Both are considered low value links. I would rather put my effort on creating a method that gains natural links.

The funny thing is I have loads of directories and social bookmarking sites, ahhh the irony.

 

I'd argue they are both a necessary part of any seo strategy. Though timur is right, they are low value links & I wouldn't base an entire seo strategy on it.

Directories play a good role in getting some good links but they should be chosen properly to do only some quality submissions rather than submitting multiple directories which are not so good to put in action, while there are very useful social bookmarking sites which can generate good traffic.

 

personally both are effective and improtant to at least do once or twice, social bookmarking probably isn't the most powerful technique as these are easily done automatically by certain services. Directories, and ones that have good standing with google (Pagerank not only on the homepage but also the cateogry pages) ar ethe ones you should invest your time in.

directories that are human edited may take some time to approve and cost a bit of money for the privilege but they are also the ones that have helped to boost rankings and even crawl rate of the category pages that the directory submissions have linked to
