Is there any point to submit in web directories? My site is new and for now I have submitted in to only 100 web directories, and when i use some analytic tool I dont see any backlink that comes from a web directory. Couple of them already listed my site, but there is no backlink. Why? I use even software to try tracking my backlinks. All backlinks are from social networks, blog commenting and forum posting, but there is no one backlink from Web directory.
You will not find back links in your analytics tool. You can find them in your webmaster tool only. Also a new website can't get quickly accepted into web directories if they have higher PR than yours. Just keep on doing what you are doing now over a period of time you will get approved from them. You are on right path only need to be patience enough
I don't understand why you tried to check your back links on analytics, you should check them on webmaster tools. However, sometimes all back links are not showing, and some times it takes time to show.
As part of any SEO strategy I think you should try to build links from as many different sources as you can; directories (website and article), blogs, other websites, social bookmarking - you name it. I would never focus on just one method, I'd do all of them, because if you only build links from one type of source then you just need Google to tweak its algorithm and you could be badly affected. If you build links from different sources then your link building is far more robust and it's like having an insurance policy.
Some web directories can still deliver. What you want when it comes to link building is to have a good enough website to be accepted with ease n any web directory. Submit to yahoo directory, Business.com, DMOZ. Then look for old, authority web directories. Instead of submitting to 3k free crappy directories, better submit to 3 good directories. Also, inspect carefully where your listing will be displayed. Is there any content? Do the web directory owner accepts any links? ETC.
I think its still worth it. I find it best to get as many different type of backlinks as possible. I usually try to create profile backlinks, submit to web directories, submit to article directories, blog comments etc.
There are some directory sites that takes months before they approved your submission, or perhaps you submit in to a wrong category.
on which web directories you submitted your website ? always try to submit links on those directories which have Home page pr 3+ then you will get backlinks. blog comment are very useful try to submit links on quality blogs
Ok thanks to everyone for the answers. I will continue to submit. Maybe in the near future I will pay to someone manual submitter because this is very time consuming. I was just wandering why my site is accepted in some directories, but when I view my backlinks there is no link from this directories. Thanks again, I doesn't expect so much answers.
I don't think anyone said this yet... but 1) it can take up to a year for a directory to add you, 2) it takes time for Google to index your listing in the directory 3) it can take longer for Google to do that if it's not a very good directory 4) try to avoid link farms - those that are a bunch of links that send you to more pages of links - and then, even more pages of links. Google pretty much ignores those. 5) check the PR of the directories you're submitting to. Make sure they have a PR, even if it's just PR1. Better than 0 because at least you know Google has recognized and indexed it. Sylvia
Directory submission is good but keep in mind you submit with proper information while submitting the directory, also check the terms and also the landing page of your site. Try to check your competitor where they submitted there links. And keep doing your work. SEO is an exhaustive process.
Links from directory sites will show later because you have to wait for your links to get approved then, wait for Google spiders to read those links.. There's no need to worry about this matter
I don't think directory submitting is that relevant any more. just a few submits to the main ones should get you noticed by the search engines and then it's mainly about content.
