Hi, I am new to this and was wanting to know if it worth ever paying any directories for a submission. There are hundreds, how do you know which ones to submit to, and if so which ones to pay?
Well there are thousands of free directories on the internet you can submit to them all, as every back link counts. As far as paid directories are concerned check their PR if they have a decent PR of 4 or 5 get decent traffic and have low-price then go for them. Remember not every paid directory is a good directory.
And it will be good if you do free directory submissions in start, rather than going for paid directory submission.. Lots of directories are shutting down these days...

There are many directory. Its ok to pay if the directory has repetition but there are many free link directories these days, you can start by submitting in those free directory..
My advice is, NOT to use directory submissions,. There are most of the directories do not approve and that will not good backlinks, instead of it, you can go for combination of article sub +bookmark+blog commenting
But it wont hurt you to get links for free from free directories, suppose you submit to 1000 directories and 300 reject your site 700 still list your site and out of that 700 hundreds suppose only 350 are good links so this makes 350 one-way back links for free is it bad to have free links?????
I am a real noob with this but there is no such thing as a bad link to your site?However, If i pay someone to submit my site to 1000 directories, what proof do i have that they have done this? Also if i was writing search algorthims i would be suspect of a sudden spurt of backlinks from meaningless directories, what is the point in directories, who actually uses them,?? surely it says nothing about the quality of your domain? Google must be more intelligent than this?
I really dono about paid directory and its services. There are lots of good quality free directories are available in net to serve you. Why do you need to go with paid directory services?
Sure..directory submission is a great idea to generate backlinks. Submit your website in many directories proper category and sub category to have it review by the proper editor.
There are so many free directories on net.And while doing directory sub. choose appropriate category.So that ur link will be approved, otherwise it will be rejected.
I would only recommend submitting to directories for a new site which is not registered on any sites or directories. In my opinion the best directories for backlinking are DMOZ and Yahoo.Most other directories are useless and don't waste your money on sites that promise submitting your site to millions of search engines and directories
Directory submission is initial part of SEO when your site ready you do Directory Submission it's give help for getting index as well increases your back links but always submit your site in relevant category!!! Best of luck!!!
Directory submission was part of SEO, But these days they dont give enuf pr juice because of their size. However you can submit to free directory to get a free backlink to your site
I think paid directory submission is not to useful. Because many paid directory but not give good service to their client. Except, we know directory which we want to pay is very famous and good like dmoz.
According to a well respected SEO guy I get info from, there are only a handful of directorys that are worth messin with these days.
