I posted this in General Chat because this isn't really about Directory Submissions. This is about the joys of mind-numbing data entry. I've been working on What are some web directories? and submitting to web directories. Over the last couple of weeks, I've done well over a thousand directory submissions. I've typed, I've cut and pasted, and I've used RoboForm. I've also used an automatic (sort of...) directory submission tool and outsourced directory submissions to another DP member. And when I look at the big list... I have 69 directories left to submit to and 19 sites to submit to them... which means 1,311 directory submissions left to complete. Except, of course, that I am finding new directories at a rate that just seems to be slightly faster than I can submit to them. Then end result is Vitamin D deficiency and some concern about my mental health. How many folks here are on this same path? How do you cope?
I have actually decided to do directory submissions at night, before going to sleep. That guarantees a sound sleep ( you may forget where you were the next day though) Thanks Will for listing my directory. btw, what is RoboForm ?
Roboform is a nifty little utility that I got when I installed SlimBrowser. SlimBrowser, to wander off topic for a moment, is an ultra-nice little tabbed web browser. RoboForm integrates with your web browser and can be used to record and play back data that you fill out in online forms. So... if you find yourself filling out the same form over and over again... you make a RoboForm "passcard" and you apply it over and over again.
Thanks Will! I think MyIE2 (maxthon) has roboform. Will try it on next directory submission festival!
There does seem to be about a million directories about at the moment. I wonder if it would be possible to get good rankings in competitive SERPS just by submitting!
Will great work, but Shawn has mentioned that he only submits to one directory and that is DMOZ. Do you feel that it is worth going to every directory and submitting listings, some of these are simply email harvesting tools for the owners to sell email lists. In addition, some will be branded as link farms by the search engines, give us your thoughts on this.
I submit articles to searchwarp all the time. That's a great site. I think I have about 60 articles there now - I think. I've submitted to a few of them. hotvsnot and uncoverthenet both have high pr internal pages, so when I make new sites, I take the time to submit to those. I've all but given up on dmoz (2 years and waiting....); I'm hoping they'll stumble across me and list me one day. Its soooo time consuming to do directory listings.
I share your frustration with DMOZ, I just submit nowadays and forget about it. It's not worth spending the time worrying about it.
And that's one directory I don't worry about, because of the completely broken culture over there. Yes. To borrow from Monty Python "every link is sacred".
I'll tell you how to cope, hand over the hard work to me. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=2330317
