Directory Submissions?

No your website won't get penalized by submitting your URL to directories, actually it might not help that much but it's was and will stay one of the easiest ways to get backlinks

 

It has fast results compared to directories as many more are looking and clicking

the only issue with bookmarks is DIGG as ive heard you can buy your way to the top results page....

web directories are useless. people abused of web directories and google devaluated them.

 

I think social bookmarking shows better results than directory submissions.

 

Google suggests submitting only to free directories.
If you pay for a featured listing, it may negatively impact your site.
