Directory submissions = spam & phishing emails

How many of you have submitted to directories only to find yourself deluged with crap in your inbox?

I got peed off with it and so now sometimes submit using different 'purpose-made' email addresses.

Then when the junk arrives I know where it comes from.

I'm considering posting a list sometime in the near future. Useful?

*** Many thanks to the vast majority of directory owners to whom I have submitted without problems ***

Why don't you use a specific email address only for directory submissions? Its dangerous to use your main email address.

I do use a specific 'non-main' email address for directories. What I am saying is that I am also using a unique address sometimes so that I can often weed out the less than scrupulous directory owners.

I always use my private email for directory submission. Every day i receive one or two spam emails. Not much. Even I have submitted my sites to almost thousand free directories.
I think spammers have better way to get email addresses of webmasters, for instance: scanning and extract email addresses from websites. Making a free directory to get email list seems not to be best way. :)

I see no problem with posting publicly, "I submitted a site to suchandso.com with suchandso.com@mydomain.com and have received xxx junk emails since at that address."

I would consider that a public service.

Directories that send out email's without your permission, unless it's about your listing are pure scum...

I had a few but not too many...

Lesson = don't use your primarily email. Use some dummy emails specific for half useful activities.

I think a list exposing the directories made for email farming would be great. Make them think twice about being a pain in my butt.

Most people use alternate emails when doing directroy subs, but it doesn't change the fact that it is annoying!
