Directory submissions not working to well anymore

Discussion in 'Link Development' started by Search-Placement, Mar 23, 2007.

It used to be I'd buy 500 directory submissions for a client and they'd have 150 links in a few weeks. Now even when I do 1000 I rarley see their back links get over 40.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, I think there are just too many directories nowadays. Many are low quality and offer nothing different so the major SE's don't place much importance on them.

Google often ignores directories now, particularly those that look like "link farms".

I use directories to get my clients indexed, but i never expect them to achieve ranking goals using them.

Submitting to a directory is a long term deal. Results will appear in time. Be patient, this is a long term investment.

I don't know if i agree with that, and even if i figured out whether or not i do, I think there are better places to throw permanent links that will mature much better. Blogs and articles for example.

However, I can still attest to the value in local or niche directories. They actually work.

My experience is the same. Tons of directory submissions, but total links seem to be slightly declining using the www.Marketleap.com link popularity tool. And PR dropped from 5 to 4 in the previous update, despite aggressive link building by directory submission. Google links dropped recently, too.

Could it be that the search engines are paying less attention to directory links? That would be a bummer.

Wow! This is really discouraging. I'm trying to pick up my submissions for this month, but now I wonder if its a waste. The biggest benefit I've seen is from Blog and Niche Directories.

Keep submitting to directories and don't believe all that you hear.

Yes, it is. I've been doing it nonstop for about two years. I have to believe that directory links were the main reason my website got to PR 5 prior to the previous update.

I know that in time people more tech-savvy than I am will figure this all out. But I still have to wonder why, with probably an average of 1,000 to 1,500 manual directory submissions a year (with varied anchor text), my total inbound links still have declined recently.

But submit to niche directories and local directories. Otherwise, its a crap shoot as to which directories will ever turn quality and result in a good link.

I have submited my site in about 150 directories, I have 44 links indexed and PR3. I submit my site in few new directories every day and I hope, I'll get PR4+.

A while back I tried submitting my site to a bunch of directories, but just got tired of it. Even if a directory is PR 5 or something, the link weight on your link is minimal. I decided my efforts are best focused on other things, like article marketing.

I agree. Article marketing is much better. If you do it right, you get rank and traffic. Just hit the low competition keywords.

I ever run a few free directories and received so many submission due to thriving directory submission business...I lost my interest to review them and turn some into paid directory.

quality directory still have good values. I have a business site almost linked from directories and ranked very well.

I believes that now directory submission becomes crap... coz about 50% to 70% directory is not even index in google and if they do, the category in which you submit not cached by google. So it's waste of time and money.

quality directories good, the thing is that everyone has a directory now and alot of people give up on them or dont maintain them once they figure out they arent gonna profit from them.
