ISsit worth it to submit ones website to directories after that Google page rank update a couple of months ago. I have started a new blog http://nopolicestate.net and I am wondering if I should try and build links for it by submitting it to directories.
Well you could always do "what they want you to do" which is go directly threw them or "PPC" since you dont wish to do it organically using "Directories" Im sure you will be spending anywhere from $1 buck to $100 "per click" depending on how popular the keyword is your looking to target... good luck in your quest thx malcolm

I have continued submitting regularly to directories. Don't spam. Submit with integrity, following the guidelines, and the links will only help; they won't hurt. EDIT: And remember, PR is a Google thing. It doesn't matter to the other search engines. So don't live and die by your web pages' PR. Get good links and you'll do fine.
Totally agree with Jim4767, keep submitting to free directories, and also blog and social networks. It will helps you a lot. PPC campaigns can help a lot but after you are sure that you are having good content and that your visitor that cost you lets say 2 USD....will return in the future and also will bring 10 more visitors on your site.Thats my opinion

100% agree with this. Why would you not submit to free directories. Anytime you get your site a link is a good thing even if for some reason Google discounts it in the PR. If you go to Google Webmaster tools, one of there recommendations is to submit to directories. However, some directories carry more weight than other for PR purposes but they are great back links in other search engines. Google may be the top but they are not the only search engine people use.
Do not cares for Google PR update on toolbar, Google update PR regularly of search engine results?. Go one submitting to quality directories to get one way links which will help in improving search engine ranking, drive relevant traffic, more conversion and sales and increase your visibility on web
