If you have had your website for years now and you have submitted your site to various directories and now decide to use directory submission again as part of your seo, how do you go about doing so? What i mean is, if you come across a new list of directories how would you know how many of those directories have your website already listed in there. You may be wasting alot of your time submitting to websites that already include your website and to manually check every time before submitting could take a long time. What is the best thing to do in this situation?

Probably none as directories only alert you when you finished submitting your site. What you can do is minimize the effort to submit like using roboform etc

Make a sheet of your back links (you can use software to do this) and then check once in your list when you start submitting again...just ctrl +F

All the directories for which you submit may not accept your link at one go. So its not bad to submit links to those websites again. However keep a note of all those directories which you submitted earlier for your reference check. Also using webmaster tools effectively will solve this issue to certain extent
