What you think about directory submission as a link building, can I get high PR with directory submission alone ?
In my experience directory submission has a place in link building although I think it is/has been devalued by google unless you are referring to yahoo, best of the web....... Other directories do have a backlink value but not as much as perhaps a year or more back. Get high PR with directory submission alone - NO. As google values natural link building a site with directory backlinks only would not get anywhere in terms of pr. It is necessary to build links with back links from a wide variety of sources and while directories have a place, I have not seen or heard of a site getting high pr on directories alone, and wouldn't believe it if I was told they did.
I agree with richromo...good info. Directory submissions do count for very little these days. If you were to submit to directories, it would probably only be worth hitting up the very best directories and directories focusing on your niche. I guess that's not what you wanted to hear since you offer a directory submission service.
You can get a PR 3 from free directory submissions alone. I try to just spend about 15 minutes a day doing directory submissions. The rest of my link building time goes into trying to get other webmasters to give me links because they find my content valuable. Directories have their place for helping to tailor keywords and balance out the back link profile (1 way, reciprocal, etc.), but they shouldn't be the only thing you do.
Directories do have a place in backlink building but with so many low profile directories out there its hard to find directories that really pass any pr on. You may get lucky and submit to a pr0 directory and then 12 months down the track its pr goes up. Directories are worth 5 mins a day.
The highest PR I ever achieved for myself, from free directories alone, was a PR 4. I did get a blogspot blog to PR 5 with only free directory submissions.
Even though they are not as useful as they once were, I still find them useful, especially when launching a new site.
I personally think that is the best thing you can do for free. Look at it this way, new directories want free submissions to populate their directories. This gets your submission reviewed very quickly. Also, with fewer competing listings, your active links will be indexed by the search engines quickly.
I know that using just directory submissions you can rank for certain terms. I rank for a somewhat low searched cycling term for one of my sports websites but the term is not included anywhere on my website and the only backlinks for it exist in directory title submissions. Actually anyone can do the same type of experiment. Submit to about 50 directories some long tail term and give it about three months and see what happens.
If you know the site owner will promote the site, definitely submit. Otherwise, I would wait and see.
I have same experience and I spend the time in directory submission. If you use one main keyword of your website and submit it in more than 1000 directories. You will definitely find positive result. Overall directory submission is safe link building if we compare link purchase or link exchange.
i have submitted my boss site too 6000 SITES xD and more then 1000 SITES OF ARTICLES with ACNE ARTICLES
Yes i strongly believe that PR can be gained from only dir. submissions and i have strong proof for that too. One of my client got PR4 in this update just from my dir. submissions. Those who dont trust me can pm me for asking his url.
Is there a directory of directories to submit to Or is it just a case of searching for free directories!
i use directory submitter software and always try and fit in 5 minutes a day submitting a few of my sites to half a dozen directories. over time it does help me rank for longtail keywords.
Great advice here. I also thought that perhaps google was getting "smarter" about widely known tactics.
Directory submissions works. Just make sure you do not submit to directories with alll kinda links! I mean casino (gambling), adult websites, pharmacy (men enlargement etc). I don't care about the PR because it is the traffic that matters. There is no use of having a PR5 website making $50/month because I'd rather prefer having a PR3 website that makes $1000/month
