Directory Submission yes/no ?

    There are many threads here with directory submission services ..So are ok for SEO , you can rank a site only with this ?

    I`m confused. :confused:

    Directories can be great for increasing backlinks and can be especially effective on increasing SERPS if you are focusing on one or two specific keywords. Put these in your anchor text and increase your backlinks gradually over a large period of time to related directories and you have cracked it.

    You will see long term increases in SERP rankings and depending how competitive your keyword is you may reach the first page.

    Obviously other factors constitute to whether you reach the first page and in what length of time, some you can control some you can not.

    SEO is built on a basis of on page, off page tactics and one of those off page tactics are link building thus using directories to increase backlinks is a common practice and technique uses and marketed by many optimisers.

    Web directories are a good way to get ranked for a lot of long tail search phrases. They can also help you get some search terms from page 2 and 3 in Google to page 1.

    Yes, it's safe for SEO... No, it's a waste of time to do it yourself... Yes, pay someone else to do it. ;)

    No, you can't rank a site by doing this. Your keywords needs to be optimized, in order for you to do this, you need quality content to promote, build quality backlinks and do blogging.

    Great info already...But I would like to add...

    The best kind of backlinks you should try and get are…

    - Targeted hand submission, niche website one-way backlink, i.e. if you have a “Travel” related website.
    - The best thing you can do is get one-way backlinks that are on other “Travel” related websites with useful Google Page Rank.

    Measure of Credibility
    The major search engines assume a website with a high number of backlinks is highly credible, more trustworthy, professional and more expert in their niche than other sites.

    Every time someone links to your website the search engines counts it as a “vote” for your site and typically moving it up the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS).
