    for my site,directory does not bring some traffic . the value of directory submission is only to build backlinks to my site

    Directory submission is useful too in SEO because Google also value the sites listed in different directories.

    The reason most people like directory submission is you can pay somebody to submit to 100 for around $10. People new to SEO think this is a great price and its certainly not a waste of money. The problem is that you only get what you pay for.

    As an addendum to my first post - don't completely discount directory submissions though. Spend a little time doing regular submission, as a good volume of links (from wherever) are better than none. The general consensus seems to be that search engines like a certain level of "background noise" for a website (in terms of links), and that's certainly been my (limited) experience. Dig out the "better" directories, sure, but don't ignore ones with low PRs either ... A low PR directory today might be a high one tomorrow, and if you've spent time finding it, you might as well spend another few instants posting a listing to it.
