I've done alot of directory submissions and I have never known them to have a negative affect, buying 5000 page site-wides on sites that have been flagged for selling links can have a negative affect if a site is in it's infancy.
I do a lot of directory submissions and have found that the free stuff is so far back in the directory that the pages are not indexed. I mainly spend the money and pay for the submission, and generally go 'Featured.' One thing I look for is how aggressively the directory is marketed. For instance, just today I was checking PR at http://livepr.raketforskning.com/ Well, this directory, http://www.nwparks.net/ is advertising on livepr's page! So, I went for it. I now have two featured listings in the real estate category. Most everyone knows about the datacenter tool at livepr's page, so ya gotta believe nwparks is paying some coin to get advertising on that popular page. IMHO
Directory Submission is best method for Link building but, never submit your website to low PR directories.
Well If I get a list of PR 0 directories. Maybe that list is not updated. If the list is updated then the google PR on the toolbar is not updated. So if I skip that directory thinking that it is a PR 0 directory. Who knows maybe it might be getting PR 4 in the upcoming update. I am not debating here but would like to hear some ideas on this one. As I have came across many statements like this in past. People skip PR 0 directories. But if toolbar says PR 0 then how can we be so sure that it will stay PR 0 in upcoming days. Aren't we losing something here.
I don't skip the PR0 directories. The PR0 directories are the best buys! I do check to see if the directory owner is aggressively marketing the directory, then I'm all over it if the directory is being marketed. If you get in on the ground floor of an ambitious directory, you might find yourself with a PR4-PR6 link down the road that cost you $5.00 today!
Exactly! Instead of skipping based on "low PR", skip on quality or lack of promotion or something a bit more important. A directory that is on an express path to higher PR is a good find at the early stages because they don't yet have the PR to support higher prices. However, I have seen PR0 directories attempting to charge outrageous fees, and I suspect some of these are directories that HAD some PR via a domain purchase, but lost it during a subsequent update...
Well i guess so they own it im sure.... I gave them a featured link with 5 deep links in hopes that my directory gets picked right at the time the PR update hits... Many times its just a gimmick to get you to add thier sites and nothing more then that as i remeber the webmaster sticking his google ads so close to the area for submission in hopes that someone would click the ads, (which i made sure i didnt click as it was a royal pain and nothing more... As for those stats... some are older and they have reduced the DCs so as to generate faster results and you may also want to try this tool from Mong as its usually dead on... http://www.digpagerank.com Good luck to you... thx malcolm1
Im hoping if I submit to a free directory with pr 0 then eventually it will either rise in pr or the owner will give up on it and the link will dissapear. I dont think its such a sin to submit to free directories with low pr. I would like to see a study that shows its actually harmful.
Thanks for the replies. Normally I just add a few links here and a few there as I go along and wouldn't know what affected what. I think it's pretty cool to have moved 6 pages for so few submissions, although if I was on page 6 I doubt if 30 directory submissions would have jumped it up to page 1. There are posts saying people add to 30 per day! (they obviously have too much time on their hands) I will try and do 5 per day from now on. Kerunai: phplinkdirectory.com if you want a directory script.
Why not? All the people who submitted to LinkLister when I did a promotion and it had no pr got free submissions for life. Now it's pr4 soon will be pr5 and they would need to pay
Agree 100% if you think a directory has potential get in there on the free offer. I have a PR1 directory that is ALWAYS predicted at PR5. in a few weeks the price will change drastically
I see a lot of people state to not be listed in low PR directories. Maybe they are talking about a cost/benefit type analysis that it's not worth your time unless you are looking towards the future. However being listed in a low PR site doesn't hurt you does it? If this were the case what's to stop someone from listing the competition in a low PR directory.
exactly -- you aren't penalized by who (or what) links to you, otherwise you could sabotage your competitor's website. as i understand it, low pr websites linking to you can only help, albeit not very much
from #359 to #305 and only 1 week, that's not a valid experience to take a solid conclusion. but probably most directory owners will approve your test, pff
It helps for a site in the beginning. However I believe that once you reach a certain point, it will diminish in importance. However for a new site I highly recommend it. Your site will be crawled more frequently.
Interesting experience. It will be even more interesting to see if your upward trend continues. Please continue to report back.
