I would like to know if submitting to many directories will be good or bad for my sites SERP . By many i mean like 3000 directories .. Also assuming all are good directories and i will be submitting to categories relevant to my site . I can see that there are many paid directories , so this must mean links from directories plays a good role in SERP .. am i right? Thx
Inbound links (from directories or otherwise) are usually a good idea, but stay away from auto-submission programs. More inbound links will increase pr, and possibly your ranking in the serps.
I always wonder about this topic. What I see as typical advice is that directories are good because inbound links will increase your PR. On the other hand, it is said to say away from FFA sites because search engines will penalize you for being on a site with nothing but links. I would be very interested in others input on this topic because I am not sure how or why a search engine sees a directory site much different then a page full of links besides a directory site being categorized. I am still pretty new at this so the answer may be obvious.
If you are using automated submission to 3000 directories then I don't think this is a great idea as they are likely to be low quality. If you are doing manual submission or paying somebody to do this then I think your money/time would be better spent building quality links.
If this were so then why does adobe acrobat rank second (sometimes first) for the search term "click here". There must be millions of inbound links from spam sites, porno sites, online casinos etc that all have a link to acrobat....so why no penalty?? Do they deserve one? How can you be punished for "where" a link comes form, if that were true I could destroy my competation by submitting their sites to various directories. They worst thing that can happen is all your hard work collecting low quality links will have absolutly no effect, but hey, thats just my opinion.
Directory submission is not possible aotomatic.if anyone says you about that it is scam beware of that! Directory submission is part of link building and is nice thing
What you say make sense. I think what I heard may be incorrect...imagine that. It may be more of a case that the majority of FFA sites are just low quality links which just doesn't help that much. What I have done is gone down the path of automated search engine submission and manual submissions to directories...an occassional paid inclusive as finances allow. I am pretty new at this so I guess I will see how it pans out.
I think people, in this area, confuse minor benefit with penalty. If you were "penalized" for having a link from another website that specialized in all links, it would be pretty darn easy to take down the major websites. I could see, say Google, taking an entire link farm type site and making all outbounds have a zero value, but I doubt it would go negative. I am sure themed directories have a much larger impact than your run of the mill general link factory.
