Is Directory Submission still a good way of promoting website?

I have read articles about directory submission and some says that it is not that important to submit to directories because SEs doesn't wanna index less content sites. How true is that? I have a website now that I am promoting and I'm confused as to what strategy to use to start. Any advice?

I own several directories, and they are all original content. I would definitely submit to directories. Google says to improve your rankings, you need inbound quality links. Be choosy about the directories you submit to. Don't submit to directories where you'll be lumped in with MFA or garbage sites.

Okay. I used to only submit to directories up to PR3s. How long does it take to be indexed by SEs? I know its quite long but what is the approximate?

    Thanks!

It can take anything from one week to several months, it all depends on what directory you submitting to, the higher the PR of the directory the quicker it would get indexed... Theoretically.

Also dont limit yourself to PR3 and above as most directories will gain pagerank over time.

Also try some other methods such as getting natural links. Don't rely on one thing.

A quicker way would be blog posting as blogs tend to get indexed more quickly
