I thought that this may make an interesting question... The days of reciprocals are seeming to be behind us now, so it boils down to the task of getting one way links pointing to your website. Recips may do some good, but not as good as one way content links, at least that is how it seems to me. If you had two lists, one was a quality directory submission list, the other is a quality article submission list. Here is my scenario - if you had only the time to submit to one of those lists, which would it be? My choice, at least I think as I have just started posting articles, would be articles as long as I didn't post content from my own site. I can make a page keyword rich and get a nice inbound link pointing towards my site(s). They say content linking is good, and most likely your link does not share links with other sites on that certain page, apart from internal links of course, or affiliate links. Am I right in thinking the above? I'm not sure how much weight an article link would pass over say a directory link, something which it seems Google are looking at paid links (myth?). Would I be right using my time to create articles instead of directory submission? Also, many directories I submit to decline my link due to the sites I build are landing pages and are not deemed 'good enough' to fit their directory, but sometimes on new directories I get accepted. I dont want to mix them, as I can slightly change the article per submission and relate them to keyword variations with the appropriate keyword anchor text... is this a wise move? Usually I submit to 300+ directories, but its a long and painful task and not guranteed inclusion. But if I write a good review of the product I am selling then this would be a better approach? Generally the domain is generic, the article contains 'the' generic term as does the anchor text, and some variations if I submit to more than one article directory for safe keeping. Anyone any experience with this? I want to free up the amount of time it takes me to submit to directories as I have many sites planned (and its boring), and see articles as my escape route. Thankee TD
If you have already submitted to 300 directories, don't worry about them anymore. It's nice to have both directory submissions and articles these days. Just get started on your articles--you're ready!
I would submit to the directory listings and hire someone to submit to the article directories. I think ongoing marketing is the best.
I have currently about 30 websites (affiliate holding pages), and I need a good effective link building campaign. The domain is generic, so I'm not looking for other pages to rank, just the domain, so I'm pretty confident that once my domain is ranked then it will stay for a while as some of my domains have done, and I can add links at will then with keyword variations in the anchor text. I was just wondering which was more effective if done right? Articles or directory submission. If articles was more effective, I would do that first and then submit to a couple of directories per week, and vice-versa. I've done some social bookmarking last week on a new site, and for the first time one of my sites has gone into the sandbox , I dont know if using social bookmarking caused this, but pretty coincidental. Maybe started my link campaign too early? Would this be a problem? It seemed to get 90 visitors per day, then just vanished from Google. Thanks for replies, advice is always appreciated TD
Traffik_Daddy, both handy. Both doing the same thing, better SERP. It's just that there are much more directories then article websites.
Submit to both on a ongoing basis - don't get to a point and think that your done as your never done - If I had to choose one over the other I would go with directory submissions.
Both if have a choice But really I don't think they can be even compared! Article submission is for Traffic and link building and Directory submission is for link and Traffic Building. Article submission is NOT for everyone but can give amazing results if you do it right.
I think article marketing is becoming more popular.. just this month my sales in articles have passed directory submissions for the first time.
Both ways are great for SERP. But I prefer submission to directory and article websites with high PR.
Directory submission doesnt really matter anymore these days. Article submission is way better, i'll go for it! Think about the rich and relevant contents, that's very important specialy to Google. Dont forget Press Release as well. I remember my article ranked in G the day after i submitted it.
