    hi everyone,

A little knowledge I would like to share with newbies and with the people who are very much familiar with directory submission.

After you feel that your site has got enough content and has turned out well, next big thing is to build up valuable reputation for the site. Building up a good reputation helps the Search Engine Spiders to crawl more quickly to your site. And it is unquestionably not an easy task.

    Reasons:

    • Persistent change of search algorithms of popular search engines.(Google, yahoo MSN, etc)
    • Intensified rivalry between existing websites.

In order tackle these hassles on the road to website popularity, webmasters use few various strategies. Few of them are directory submission, Blog commenting, forum posting, article marketing basically link building, and directory submission tops the chart to bring the obligatory Pr and SERP for the site.

    What is Directory Submission?

They are online directories places, where website links are accumulated in diverse categories and sub-categories, so that links are effortlessly recognized by spies engaged by different search engines.
These directories are most visited by search engines in seek of quality website links.

    Choosing a Directory

We all know that there are millions of directories and their lists which can be found out on different blogs, directories and search engines. But how to select them is one of the major skills that one should master to get most out of them.

    • Complimentary or Paid: If you want to ensure longer subsistence of your website link in a directory, make sure it is PAID directory. You may also
consider a few free directories, but make sure these are immensely popular
    • Page Rank (pr): The popular old high pr sites can enhances your site pr and serp as those directories are trusted and crawled quickly by search engines. But make sure you check their PR and other details by tools and search engines. ;)
    • General or Niche: Both! It is a superior initiative to prefer both types of directories. It will extend the diameter of your website links residing at different reputable places.

Types of Approaches for Directory Submission

    • Manual Submission: By this approach a team of search engine optimizers by personally or manually visiting good and reputable online directories.
    • Submission Software: To quicken up the submissions people tend to buy directory submission software. This increases the place of your website to link too many directories more quickly.
    • Directory submission Service: As seen here on DP, many people have threads stating “Cheap manual directory submission”. Most of them are professional personal or companies which offer such services.

Choosing these approaches depends on the need of the webmaster. Each of them has their disadvantages and advantages to directory submission.

Few tips from my side to extract maximum benefits:

    When doing submissions:

    • Take extra care towards the anchor text used to be an adjunct to your website link
    • Try to vary the descriptions after each interval of submissions. You don’t want to land on Google Sandbox. Do you?
    • If you are site is new only try and do submissions to those directories which are new too. This is so because new sites generally lack PR, content and traffic, which are the souls of one’s site. Submitting the site to new directories will definitely increase the approval rates as they have to show links to their traffic. Submitting your site to old and reputed directories will not yield any results. These sites are generally looking for more established sites.
    • Also, try choosing directories which allow deep linking. That means they allow you to submit your website’s inner page link.
    • In the end keep the SEO word in your mind while submitting to various directories.

    Thank you

    I dont agree because:

Also a genuinely new web directory will lack pr, being indexed, barely known to the search engines yet.

Submitting a site to older and reputed directories will yield results, its wrong to suggest that it wouldn't.

No their not generally looking for more established sites, theres lots of things taken into consideration by an older and reputeable directory but if you have content and pass the other requirements then theres no reason that they would not allow a newer submitted site to be listed.

"We all know that there are millions of directories"

Theres actually not millions, ive said this a million times though, dont exagerate. ;):p

    General or Precise:

The terms are general or niche directories.

    Edited that part. Thank you.

By new directory sites I do not mean literally very new sites.

Yes those sites will have less pr, indexed pages, etc. But your new site will get indexed much more quickly as those new directories are looking to put link on their site.

New directories will become old one day or the other. Submitting your site to more reputed sites will not guarantee a approval and even if you get a approval that should be around like....3 to 4 months.By that time even you don't know how many new directories will approve your link and become more reputed in the society. You never know.
