This directory requires a registration, will it stop the mass submissions from Southeast Asia. I think they were getting tired of all the spammy sites coming from India. The trick was to require logging in as a registrant...lol. Does that really stop the spam?

depends on how good the reg page is...some bots can fill out a simple form. that is why there are captcha's on many forms.

NO when i did it he made a
point to show me he could get right threw it....

all he needs is the submit page location and he goes like its not even their...

then the prick contacted me on another site and lauphed at me...
so then i just bought the spam filter from an0n.

BUT! i think that if you filp the fields around ( title and link detail ) he will have no choice
but to submit by hand if not it will give errors and submittion never entered...
so he will get bored and pester someone else... its worth a shot anyway as
i doubt hes going to go threw any extra hoops to target you as hes just targetting the mass bulk of
    directory owners submit pages...

    thx

I think it's a bigger deterrant to your valued submitters as many would rather move on to another directory that does not require registrations in order to submit a listing. Honestly, we tried that route on eWebPages Directory and the only difference we found was that there was a drop off in legit submissions. ;)

Is there a script around to scramble the submit fields around and inhibit the weirdos that do this?

I don't think changing the field order will solve your problem. The submit process relies on the form $_POST['fieldname'] values. The script that updates the database could care less about the order.

If I were building a submit bot, the only variable I'd have to know on a phpLD site is the url.
