Saw this post at Sitepoint... Appears the owner of Directory Rate is selling the site. http://marketplace.sitepoint.com/auctions/51499
The BIN is $17,500. Might be hard to get with this economy, but I know all the custom code written for Directory Rate makes it a solid investment for the right buyer.
Went online in Jul 2007, and up for sale less than 2 years later 17k? leave it out, for that I could build my own and promote it amazingly well for the next 5 years. Still I doubt it would make much, as this sort of thing only attracts kids desperate for anything that says 'this site is cool'. If it's that great, why sell it - it's being sold because it clearly doesn't work.
I am a banner advertiser on this site and I'm sure that it can be set-up to generate more revenue. Even if revenue doubled it would be hard to go for the full bin price.
well maybe it won't get the bin price but whatever it makes it will be a good purchase for the buyer. if i could afford to layout for it i'd have a dabble
It would take so much time and money to make anything of it, and that's why it's being sold off. It doesn't work. No way does this make 400 a month - that's very good money for a webmaster site and if it was making that much, the guy wouldn't be selling it at it's inflated price.
It's already established. My guess is the owner has other projects that are more profitable. It makes $402.50 a month just in "Rate Recommends" links. Add the ten 125 x 125 banners and that is another $250 a month...
I think it's a good opportunity for somebody with knowledge of the industry to take it further. I actually read the sitepoint ad and the owner makes a clear and detailed statement for his reason to sell. Just checked my awstats and it's my top referring site, higher than other lists I pay to advertise on. Good luck to the seller and buyer.
It has not been updated since may ( blogs etc ) but that is described in the for sale section, basicly let die, the advertising has been at half price since or before that time so i am unsure on those quoted incomes and how that affects how it s priced ? the traffic only has 25% in total coming from usa / uk the bulk is now coming in from india and pakastan. that said always liked the site and wish both old and new owners well.
I love to own this site. But i think it is better to build a site up from scratch. If someone cn help me create a site like this, please pm me.
Not really.... An official "broker" asks for 2.5 years revenue and gets 10% of sale ... laterz malcolm
I can, but have the skills to make such a site by myself with the only cost being the domain and the designer I hire...so I have to decide if it's worth it or not.
From SitePoint ad: Seems a bit odd to me that he states that it only takes 20 minutes a week to manage this site, and yet he is making at least $800. Why would one sell it with such little work involved and make that income?
