I wasn't sure where to post this...but I think this is pretty close. I was entering my site in a directory and it "read" my site and tried to pre-fill in some of the fields...like site title and keyword. I am using Joomla 1.5 for my home page but my site actually is a forum based community. When my site was "read" it chose keywords like Joomla, and Open Source. Can someone tell me exactly what this means? Plus, when search engine bots and spiders crawl my site...is that what they will turn up with? Thanks in advance.
When you view your source you should be able to see text between . Change your Joomla configuration to edit title to what you want to set it to. Some directories will help you by getting the details from your website but usually they also allow you to edit the title and description "for submission". You are right about search engine bots and spiders they also see Joomla and open source on your website.
OK...sorry I'm so damn new at this its irritating even me...LOL. I just updated my meta info on the global config in joomla. Now, this raises the question...if Google, Yahoo, other search engines have already crawled my site....am I too late? In other words, will they not come back to find the new meta data? If so, does it happen often? Thanks.
No, they would crawl your site again.. and you are not too late.. crawl speed is determined by how frequently content gets updated on your front page. Try and get different meta description and title for each page/post on your forum.
