I wanted to know how many of you use Adwords to advertise your directory. I thought Adwords would be the best way to get more people other than sites like directory of directories. Anyone has a good experience with it?
If you have a niche directory i could probably understand using adwords, but a general directory can't see much point of it
I think it can do well for niche directory, like regional ones or those focused on small topics. The kind of directory used mainly by surfers rather than webmasters. For general directories, I don't think it's useful because surfers dont look for them, and it's pretty easy lo let webmasters know about your directory.
directory owners do use adwords get targeted traffic from relevant sites such as webmaster forums such as dp. I don't have any experience what the conversion rate is though.
depending on your level of aggression you could see good results from it, I ran an ad on a few sites and worked ok. But I think the main point is to get the name out and show others that you are taking your directory serious. I believe that like any other business whether it is a directory or not your business should be advertised for users and not just webmasters. There are alot of people out there that do their own link building so if you are seen enough you will get sales, that's how it is with any business.
As the other people said don't think that will work to well, maybe with regional specific directories...
I have been running campaigns on Adwords, Yahoo, and MSN for many months now. I've been getting a good ROI and conversion rate, so I have no plans to stop anytime soon.
Yes, that is the way to go. Especially links on webmaster forums like DP because adwords just does not reach the type of market directory owners are looking for.
I agree, If you spend the money and link building, your PR goes higher (and ranking in SE results) More people will wana submit to your directory if it has higher PR
